Q. We’re a small professional society and we haven’t changed our Association Management Software in close to 10 years. We’re hoping to redesign our website this year and I’m thinking now is the time to make an AMS change at the same time. Our team receives so many complaints about our website navigation, especially with our conference registration and member directory. I know we won’t be able to afford another change in at least 5 years, so how can I be certain I’m recommending the right AMS to our Board

A:  AMS is an outdated concept precisely for the reasons you state.   Alternatively, consider an Association Engagement Management System (EMS) where website(s) and database come from the same source.  When there is no system difference between database and website, the member directory is accessible through the website, avoiding navigation issues and enhancing the member’s personal experience in all areas, including conference registration, product purchases, dues renewal, continuing education, or any other ways your organization interacts with its members.
