Letter from NYSAE CEO

One of the Board’s strategic objectives this year is to actively develop and build upon strategic alliances with similar organizations in the New York metro region. Thanks to an invitation from our friends at Kalahari Resort, I attended Education Day, sponsored by the New York Chapter of PCMA.

The theme was Unite & Conquer. What a wonderful day this was. I experienced inspirational speakers, fantastic networking with our hospitality partners and social action all while being in an iconic New York venue, Caroline’s. Attendees were not able to leave the general session until they signed and submitted a letter to their representatives to support raising awareness and funds to help runaway and homeless youth. I thought that was a wonderful and meaningful effort by their Community Service Committee. One of the first speakers who addressed the full house of association executives, meeting planners and hospitality suppliers was Radha Agrawal, named by MTV as “one of 8 women who will change the world.” Radha calls herself a social entrepreneur, community architect, public speaker and author. She was incredibly energetic, unique, motivating and inspirational. Using a fun PowerPoint presentation, Radha walked us through the pages of her life, then through her book, Belong: Find Your People, Create Community, and Live a More Connected Life. Radha talked about how we all must “find our people” and build and nurture community because connectedness—as more and more studies show—is our key to happiness, fulfillment and success. As I listened to her every word I kept thinking, isn’t that the reason why we join associations? To be with others who share a common thread? I definitely connected with Radha and I am looking forward to reading her book.

Looking forward to seeing you at an upcoming event ---

Holly J. Koenig | CEO
