New York State closed home sales, selling price and pending sales all continued to grow during August, according to the housing market report released Monday by the New York State Association of REALTORS. Closed sales grew by 4.3 percent compared to last August, while the median sales price jumped 7.4 percent and pending sales were up 10.8 percent. Learn more here.
 
In its U.S. Foreclosure Market Report for August 2015, RealtyTrac reported that New York State had 5,658 total foreclosures, a 1.1-percent decrease from July but a 52.63-percent increase from August 2014. New York State ranks 21 out of all 50 states in monthly total foreclosure filings. One in every 1,434 housing units received a foreclosure filing. Learn more here
 
GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS
Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie said he supports including a prevailing wage requirement in 421-a tax break legislation for developers in exchange for affordable housing construction, but is primarily concerned with getting a deal done by the end of the year when it is set to expire. Negotiations are set to begin in the next few weeks between real estate developers and unions. More on this story can be found here.
 
Finley Maxson, senior counsel with the National Association of REALTORS, will be presenting "TRID: Changes to the Mortgage Closing Process" during the Legislative Policy Forum at the NYSAR Fall Business Meetings. Maxson will be speaking on Tuesday, Oct. 6, at 8:30 a.m. in the Mohawk room at The Turning Stone Casino and Resort.
