NRMCA recently verified three system-level Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) for NRMCA Producer members O&G Industries and Dickinson Ready Mix, and non-member ready mix producer Arizona Materials.
For Producer member O&G Industries, underlying life cycle data for each plant and EPD were reviewed and verified by Ecoform, a verifier in NRMCA’s EPD program. The EPD was developed in consultation with and based on a software tool by Climate Earth. The software tool integrates LCA impacts within batch operating software to generate EPDs when desired. The software was reviewed and verified by Industrial Ecology Consultants. Public access to the EPD is available on the NRMCA EPD webpage and is listed as NRMCA EPD: 20073 O & G Industries. This EPD reports the impacts for ready mixed concrete from two plants in Connecticut. SEO
Registration has just opened for both 2023 Effective Supervisor workshops; the first class will be in Los Angeles, April 18 - 20 and the second in Charlotte, NC, November 7 - 9. NRMCA Senior Director, Building Innovations, Patrick Matsche, along with Antara Chaudry of the Northwest Cement Council recently presented Business Case for ICF Construction to Green Canopy Node. With offices in Seattle and Portland, OR, Green Canopy Node is a developer, contractor, engineering and architectural firm with a mission to build homes, relationships and businesses that help regenerate communities and environments. Presenting in-person in Seattle and via webinar to the Portland offices enabled Build With Strength the opportunity to review a real world project. After completing a Design Assistance Proposal (DAP), NRMCA provided a cost comparison that demonstrated a 10% reduction in construction costs along with an estimated increase in energy efficiency of up to 40%. Utilizing information provided by NRMCA Producer members in Washington State, Matsche was able to show that a concrete structure, through the use of low carbon concrete mix designs, can reduce greenhouse gas emissions up to 80% or the equivalent of removing 15 passenger vehicles from the roadways. Daniel McCune, a construction project manager, attended the recent Low Carbon Concrete Symposium held in Oregon. For more information, contact Patrick Matsche at pmatsche@nrmca.org or 415-672-5275.
