Association & Industry News
NRMCA thanks Producer members that completed this year’s survey. The data collected represents approximately 30% of the U.S. mixer driver pool. Of note, 71% reported they lost business due to their company’s driver shortage, up 3% from last year. The full report should be released in early fall. It will be segmented by region and company size, with 5- year trends and only be accessible to member companies. For more information, contact Eileen Dickson at edickson@nrmca.org. Each year NRMCA reviews candidates to serve on its Board of Directors. The Nominating Committee will review all submissions during its meeting this fall and will determine the slate of 20 nominees and one state association representative to be presented to the membership during the Annual Business Meeting in March 2023. The committee encourages nominations from diverse backgrounds to ensure that the Board of Directors is reflective of the Association’s membership. The basic requirements, in addition to their willingness to be active and engaged participants, stipulate that each candidate must be committed to promoting NRMCA programs and working in the best interest of its membership and the industry while operating in accordance with NRMCA’s Strategic Plan and Vision 2030 objectives. NRMCA Producer members in good standing are eligible to serve. Please share the NRMCA Board Job Description and discuss your nomination with the candidate prior to submission to determine his or her interest to serve as a director. NRMCA Board Members serve three-year terms beginning at the conclusion of the Annual Convention in March 2023. The deadline for nominations is Friday, July 29. To nominate a candidate, please complete and submit the accompanying form to Heather Houck. Self-nominations are accepted. The Slag Cement Association (SCA) has produced version 3.0 of its Life Cycle Assessment Calculator for slag cement; it is now available on the SCA website. The SCA commissioned the Athena Institute to produce its Ready Mixed Concrete Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) Calculator for Slag Cement - Version 3.0 to show the environmental impacts of using slag cement in ready mixed concrete. The LCA calculator allows users to enter custom concrete mixes and then substitute varying amounts of slag cement through a simple dashboard interface. By selecting a preset mix or entering the details of a custom mix, the calculator allows users to increase or decrease the percentage of slag cement and calculate LCA results in real time. The tool also allows users to compare custom mixes against region-specific industry average mixes and substitute these mixes into a generic whole building to calculate cumulative whole-building results. The calculator can be accessed on the SCA website. The growing need to reduce the carbon impact of concrete led the SCA to create an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for slag cement. The recently updated EPD provides quantifiable environmental data on the materials, transportation and processing impacts in the production of slag cement. Click here to view the full EPD.
