NRMCA Promotes Shamim Rashid-Sumar to Senior Vice President, Codes and Standards

NRMCA has promoted Shamim Rashid-Sumar, PE, FSFPE to senior vice president, codes and standards. In her new role, she will lead the building codes and standards group, which includes Scott Campbell, Katie Poss and Matthew Lemay, as well as manage several external consultants, including Tien Peng, who left NRMCA at the end of June. Shamim will report to NRMCA Executive Vice President, Structures and Sustainability, Lionel Lemay.

Shamim joined NRMCA in August 2019 after two decades of working for world-renowned fire protection consultants. Based in New York, she works with national model building codes and standards organizations to advocate for resilience through non-combustible construction and provides technical support regarding codes, standards, regulations and legislation at the national, state and local level. Shamim is a Fellow of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) and a member of the SFPE Board of Directors. She is a principal member of NFPA technical committees on Building Construction, Fire Protection Features, Fire Tests, Residential Occupancies, Wildland and Rural Fire Protection, Construction and Demolition, and Structure, Construction, and Materials. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in fire protection engineering and a Minor Citation in French language and cultures from the University of Maryland, College Park.
