CONCRETEPAC sponsorship opportunities are now open. Your company has the chance to become an overall sponsor, swag sponsor or cigar roller sponsor orauction item sponsor/donor. If your company has sporting event tickets, vacation homes, access to exclusive golf courses, etc., please consider donating them to the CONCRETEPAC Viva Las Vegas Dinner & Auction being held on March 6, 2026, in Tucson, AZ, in conjunction with NRMCA’s Annual Convention. This is a great opportunity to place your brand in front of the industry’s key decision makers. Don't miss this opportunity to get your brand in front of concrete's most powerful decision makers.
The Concrete Council recently convened the first in a series of semi-annual roundtable exchanges (one is seen here) with public works officials from the largest municipalities in the St. Louis region along with member firm executives representing various segments of the concrete industry, reports Oliver "Skip" Dulle. Jesse Jonas, PE, the Council's director of engineering, served as facilitator and gave presentations on various topics based on recent feedback from public agency asset owners.
Buildings
Build With Strength Senior Director, Building Innovations, Patrick Matsche met recently with a leading AEC firm determined to lower the Global Warming Potential (GWP) of its projects. Low carbon concrete, once an afterthought or one off, is now a priority for design firms. HDR, founded in Omaha, NE, in 1917, helps rural Midwest towns adapt to a changing world, bringing power to the plains and water treatment systems where they are needed most. Today, HDR has over 14,000 employees with more than 200 offices around the globe. On October 24 - 25, NRMCA Senior Director, Building Innovations, and the Concrete Specification Institute's Northeast Region Chapter President for 2025-26 Frank Mruk led a strategic planning retreat in Albany, NY. The retreat brought together the full leadership of CSI’s Northeast Region for an intensive working session focused on the future direction of one of the institute’s most diverse and influential geographic clusters.
Pavement
Last week, NRMCA Senior Director, Local Paving, Greg Halsted traveled through the Rocky Mountains providing education and guidance on the efficiency, durability and sustainability of concrete pavements. Monday started off in Firestone, CO, with a half-day training session to flatwork trades personnel with D.R. Horton, Inc., the largest homebuilder by volume in the United States. The presentation, Keys to Successful Concrete Flatwork, covered the materials, mix designs, site work, placing, finishing, curing and jointing of concrete flatwork as well as how to troubleshoot slab defects and work with portland-limestone cement mixes. D. R. Horton requested the training after an earlier presentation in July that Halsted gave to the firm's construction and warranty team personnel. Tracy Moe, customer care manager for D.R. Horton, noted that the training will ensure that staff catches issues with concrete flatwork during construction as opposed to when the work is in warranty.
