Association & Industry News
NRMCA estimates ready mixed concrete production reports based on cement shipment reports from the U.S. Geological Survey. The most recent report of estimates of U.S. and state production was for June 2025. USGS is impacted by the lapse in appropriations associated with the shutdown of the federal government. NRMCA will resume its reporting of ready mixed concrete production when reports of cement shipments by the USGS return. NRMCA apologizes for not having current information available. Ready mixed production estimates are available for NRMCA members here under Production Statistics. It’s time to shine a spotlight on the people and companies that make our industry stronger. NRMCA Associate members are proud to present two special awards honoring leadership, service and community spirit within the ready mixed concrete industry. Anyone can submit a nomination – even for yourself or your company.

The American Cement Association in collaboration with NRMCA and the American Society of Concrete Contractors has scheduled a one-day Blended Cements Workshop in Denver on Wednesday, November 12. With blended cements playing a larger role in modern construction, developing a thorough understanding of PLC/Type IL, IP, IT and IS cements is critical. This session will provide practical guidance, expert insights and real-world applications through case studies, project showcases and interactive roundtable discussions. Last week at the request of NRMCA Producer member Dolese Bros. Co., Senior Director, Building Innovations, Donn Thompson, AIA, visited Oklahoma University in Norman to present to students at the Christopher C. Gibbs College of Architecture. The topic, Environmental Impact of Concrete, Wood, and Steel, dispelled the myths that have inaccurately favored wood materials over other competitive products. The presentation relies, in part, on objective findings contained in a report jointly published by the Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI) and the US Green Building Council, (USGBC), two organizations advocating for more sustainable building practices in light of past assumptions that ignored important aspects of lumber harvesting, forestry practices and carbon storage implications. They are now calling for greater transparency and accuracy in findings about wood's environmental impacts. The goal of the presentation was to leave students recognizing that there is little difference among the environmental impacts of concrete, wood and steel over the full service life of structures. Making material choices for projects of all types should be based on objectively assessing available materials based on accurate, unbiased information, Thompson said. “It’s about finding the best fit and then optimizing that choice to provide the best long-term performance for the project,” he told the students. The American Concrete Institute's Spring Convention was held from October 25 - 29 in Baltimore. The following is a summary of committee activity involving NRMCA Staff representation: 122 – Energy Efficiency of Concrete and Masonry Systems –The committee is working to add more details specific to ICF, Tilt-Up and Precast concrete sandwich panels to its code. It is evaluating comparative analyses between 90.1 and 122 on thermal bridging using Energy Plus in an effort to prove the efficacy of ACI CODE-122.1. A discussion ensued on the completion of an article regarding the Benefits of Using ACI CODE-122.1 for compliance with Thermal Bridging Requirements and Reducing Energy Use with Mass Walls. Darryl Dixon maintains representation in ACI 122. The Fall 2025 newsletter of the National Concrete Consortium (NC2) is now available online and has the following items: • Quality Assurance and Quality Control for Concrete Pavement Projects: New Tools and Resources -The Fall 2025 NC² Moving Advancements into Practice (MAP) Brief from the NC² Resource Library summarizes a series of technical briefs addressing quality control for concrete paving.
