The Fall 2025 newsletter of the National Concrete Consortium (NC2) is now available online and has the following items:
• Quality Assurance and Quality Control for Concrete Pavement Projects: New Tools and Resources -The Fall 2025 NC² Moving Advancements into Practice (MAP) Brief from the NC² Resource Library summarizes a series of technical briefs addressing quality control for concrete paving. These technical briefs were produced to accompany a best practices guide produced by the CP Tech Center titled Quality Control for Concrete Paving: A Tool for Agency and Industry.
• Use of Supplementary Cementitious Materials for Concrete - The National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) Synthesis 656 documents state department of transportation practices for specifying and using supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs). The synthesis summarizes the nature of SCMs and their current applications, availability and performance. It also provides insight into knowledge gaps regarding SCMs and areas that require further development.
• Evaluation of Unbonded Jointed Concrete Overlays - Research conducted by the Illinois Center for Transportation evaluated three unbonded concrete overlays in Illinois with high, medium and very low truck volumes. The report documenting this work includes a summary of the influence of interlayers on the overlays’ performance which was determined through shear wave ultrasound tomography, structural response assessment, profilometer testing and core extractions.
• Optimized Aggregate Gradations for Concrete Mixture Designs - This report from the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) summarizes a study on the benefits of and techniques for optimizing aggregate gradations in concrete mixtures. It provides a comprehensive review of the ways optimized aggregate gradations can improve concrete durability, sustainability and economics in TDOT applications.
