Each year NRMCA reviews candidates to serve on its Board of Directors. The Nominating Committee will review submissions during its meeting this fall and will determine the slate of Board nominees and state association representatives to be presented to the membership during the Annual Business Meeting next March.

The Nominating Committee encourages nominations from diverse backgrounds to ensure the Board of Directors is reflective of the Association’s membership. The basic requirements, in addition to a willingness to be an active and engaged participant, stipulate that each candidate must be committed to promoting NRMCA programs and working in the best interest of its membership and the industry while operating in accordance with NRMCA’s Strategic Plan and Vision 2030 objectives. The Board provides strategic direction, fiduciary oversight and governance of the organization’s operations. NRMCA Producer members in good standing are eligible to serve.

Last month, the US Department of Transportation (DOT) updated its guidance to federal and state enforcement officials for determining commercial motor vehicle (CMV) driver compliance with proficiency of the English language. The updated guidance is in response to an Executive Order issued by President Trump back in April. The new guidance aims to reestablish enforcement of the requirement for drivers to be proficient in the English language as per Title 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations section 391.11(b)(2). While the requirement is not new, its enforcement has been nearly non-existent following guidance on the issue from former President Obama.
NRMCA’s Annual Safety Award acknowledges the significant contribution that safe work practices gives to the growth and success of individual companies and the ready mixed concrete industry as a whole. The award is presented to an individual or company whose actions represent the very highest in the advancement of safety in the ready mixed concrete industry. The award program is generously sponsored by the Truck Mixer Manufacturers Bureau (TMMB).

NRMCA’s Commitment to Environmental Excellence Awards competition offers producers national recognition for outstanding contributions to protecting the environment and maintaining sound management practice in their operations. The program salutes companies that have not only met, but surpassed governmental compliance measures and demonstrated a commitment to environmental excellence through plant and staff investment.

NRMCA member companies producing ready mixed concrete from a fixed plant location in the U.S., its territories or Canada are eligible to enter. Awards will be determined upon individual plant merits. Winning entrants will be honored at the Industry Awards Ceremony at NRMCA‘s ConcreteWorks 2025 this October in Orlando, FL. Winners will also be featured in a 2025 edition of NRMCA’s Concrete InFocus magazine and the trade magazine Concrete Products.

Entries and photos must be e-mailed to kwalgenbach@nrmca.org by Friday, July 18. Click here for more information and to download the entry form.

NRMCA Senior Director, Building Innovations, Brandon Wray recently exhibited at the Structural Engineers Association of Arizona (SEAOA) Annual Convention, held in Tucson. The theme of the Build With Strength exhibit was the promotion of innovative building systems that leverage concrete materials to accommodate modern needs for resilience and energy efficiency.

Wray was joined by Tremco representatives Peter Eastburn and Michael Merkle (seen here, from left to right, are Merkle, Eastburn and Wray) who represented both block and panelized insulated concrete forms. In tandem with highlighting structural performance, performance -based design and specifications were a major part of the discussion as the structural engineering community is continually working toward efficient applications of material mechanics. Together, these conversations highlighted the ways concrete outperforms most materials when put to the test.

For more information regarding promotion in Arizona, contact Brandon Wray at bwray@nrmca.org.

Government Affairs

Government Affairs teams for both NRMCA and the Concrete Masonry and Hardscapes Association (CMHA) met with Senate offices in late May to express concerns and opposition to S. 1094, the Mass Timber Federal Buildings Act. This legislation would require the General Services Administration (GSA) to give preference to mass timber construction when renting, building or purchasing a building. Given the GSA’s significant footprint in the built environment – it has a portfolio of more than 10,000 buildings – preferences like this have the potential to distort incentives and impact market demand for buildings based on construction materials.

NRMCA and CMHA maintain that Congress should approach construction from a material-neutral perspective and avoid policies that tend to prefer one material over another.

For more information, contact Andrew Tyrrell at atyrrell@nrmca.org.

In May, Kurt Croell, president of NRMCA Producer member Croell Inc., visited Washington for a jam-packed day of Capitol Hill meetings with members of Congress and key Congressional staff. Croell, accompanied by NRMCA’s Government Affairs team, attended 11 meetings with nine Members of Congress from seven states, each representing a location containing a Croell facility.

If you are interested in coming to Washington to advocate on behalf of the ready mixed concrete industry, make plans to attend the Legislative and Policy Forum on September 17 - 19. If your executive team would like to come to Washington to meet with Members of Congress and Congressional offices representing your geographic footprint, please contact Andrew Tyrrell.

NRMCA Member News

NRMCA Producer member Chaney Enterprises, a construction materials supplier in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeastern regions, has relocated its corporate headquarters from Gambrills, MD, to Annapolis, MD, the state capital. Located at 2661 Riva Road, Building 900, the building is owned and operated by Chaney Enterprises.

“This move isn’t just about a new building - it’s a testament to the strength and growth of our company and the incredible people who make it all possible,” said Francis Hall Chaney, III, CEO of Chaney Enterprises. “We’ve built a headquarters that supports our exceptional team and positions us for years to come. We’re here to grow, to support our customers and communities and keep pushing this company forward, right here from Annapolis.”

NRMCA Producer member Lauren Concrete has hosted its first mixer driver rodeo held earlier this week in Austin, TX. Some 18 company drivers competed before about 50 spectators during a day of competition, camaraderie and concrete pride at Kelly Reeves Stadium in North Austin. Contestants navigated a series of difficult maneuvers through a challenge course, one very similar to the NRMCA National Championship course, to test their knowledge and skill behind the wheel of a mixer truck. Performance on the course, combined with written test scores, determined the overall winners. Congratulations to the top three winners (seen here, from left to right, are Roberto Hernandez, Cody Lindemann and Mike Contreras):

  • Gold – Roberto Hernandez (Brenham South Plant)
  • Silver – Cody Lindemann (La Grange Plant)
  • Bronze – Mike Contreras (Austin 2-9 Plant)

"I am so proud of our drivers and their willingness to do something that they have never done before," said Kirsten Tharp, part of the Mixer Rodeo Planning Committee and head of Media Marketing at Lauren. "They showed up and gave it their all out on the course and everyone had fun in the process. Based on the positive feedback we received, I just know there will be even more participation next year."

The company said it will send drivers to NRMCA's National Driver Championship to be held in October in Florida as part of ConcreteWorks 2025. Tharp thanked NRMCA staff for attending the rodeo, specifically Gary Mullings for sharing his insight gained from conducting numerous local, state and national mixer driver rodeos.

Pavement

The NRMCA Pave Ahead program recently exhibited at the NAIOP I.CON East 2025 Real Estate conference in Jersey City, NJ. Senior Vice President, Local Paving, Phil Kresge and Senior Director, Local Paving, Luke McHugh manned the display and fielded questions from many of the over 1,200 attendees from the Commercial Real Estate (CRE) community. Kresge and McHugh also networked with several of the other exhibitors from the engineering and design/build communities.

Breakout sessions included topics on current market trends, global economic landscape and future demands of the CRE market. One key takeaway from the conference was that sustainability continues to be a focus among owners and developers.

For more information, contact Phil Kresge at pkresge@nrmca.org or Luke McHugh at lmchugh@nrmca.org.
