NRMCA Producer member Lauren Concrete has hosted its first mixer driver rodeo held earlier this week in Austin, TX. Some 18 company drivers competed before about 50 spectators during a day of competition, camaraderie and concrete pride at Kelly Reeves Stadium in North Austin. Contestants navigated a series of difficult maneuvers through a challenge course, one very similar to the NRMCA National Championship course, to test their knowledge and skill behind the wheel of a mixer truck. Performance on the course, combined with written test scores, determined the overall winners. Congratulations to the top three winners (seen here, from left to right, are Roberto Hernandez, Cody Lindemann and Mike Contreras):

  • Gold – Roberto Hernandez (Brenham South Plant)
  • Silver – Cody Lindemann (La Grange Plant)
  • Bronze – Mike Contreras (Austin 2-9 Plant)

"I am so proud of our drivers and their willingness to do something that they have never done before," said Kirsten Tharp, part of the Mixer Rodeo Planning Committee and head of Media Marketing at Lauren. "They showed up and gave it their all out on the course and everyone had fun in the process. Based on the positive feedback we received, I just know there will be even more participation next year."

The company said it will send drivers to NRMCA's National Driver Championship to be held in October in Florida as part of ConcreteWorks 2025. Tharp thanked NRMCA staff for attending the rodeo, specifically Gary Mullings for sharing his insight gained from conducting numerous local, state and national mixer driver rodeos.
