Lionel Lemay, executive vice president, structures and sustainability, has transitioned away from his role with NRMCA and the Association’s Build With Strength program. We recognize and thank Mr. Lemay for his commitment to the Association and the broader concrete industry. He shared his talents with NRMCA for 20+ years. We wish Mr. Lemay well in his future endeavors.

In an effort to continue seamless support of NRMCA’s broad promotion efforts, Brian Killingsworth, executive vice president, local paving, will expand his reach on an interim basis to support and drive both the Build With Strength and Pave Ahead programs. Jeannette Munroe, senior vice president, NRMCA Learning and Development, will take the lead in driving the educational efforts associated with these programs.

The Illinois Ready Mixed Concrete Association and the Concrete Council presented a Concrete 101 training session at the Illinois Chapter of the American Public Works Association's "Roads Scholar" Program in Effingham, IL, on May 13.

The engineering division presented to 124 public works employees (some seen here) from around the state, teaching frontline concrete consumers how to ensure their concrete will last for decades to come, said the Concrete Council's Oliver Dulle. Training included segments on concrete materials and mix designs, transport, subgrade and base preparation, concrete handling and placement, quality control, proper curing, proper jointing and, finally, proper joint sealing. In all, this was a 4-hour training session resulting in nearly 500 content contact hours, reported Dulle.

"The audience was extremely engaged, asking great questions and learning valuable information to take back to their agencies regarding concrete solutions," he said. "Within this training, information was included on concrete trails, concrete overlays, resilience and a good understanding of balanced asset management plans that incorporate long lasting concrete solutions."

IRMCA and the Concrete Council have partnered to expand awareness of and education about concrete construction in Illinois over the past several years in the public and private sectors about roads, overlays, trails and shared use paths, school construction, emergency responder facilities, distribution, manufacturing and other applications.
