NRMCA's Schaefer Obtains MSc degree from U of Leeds

NRMCA Vice President, Research and Technical Services, Glenn Schaefer has been awarded a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Advanced Concrete Technology from the University of Leeds in the United Kingdom. The degree is a one-of-a-kind, internationally respected program and widely regarded as one of the highest-level qualifications available to concrete professionals. Schaefer went through the program remotely. The program blends advanced chemistry of cementitious materials, materials science, durability engineering, mix design optimization and sustainable construction practices. Its curriculum integrates intensive academic research with complex industry problem-solving, preparing graduates to lead technical innovation and shape the future of the global concrete community.
Schaefer’s thesis, A Systematic Review of Alternative Cements: Advancements, Challenges and Future Prospectives for Sustainable Concrete Construction, provides a comprehensive overview of emerging cement technologies. His work highlights key opportunities and barriers associated with scaling alternative cements and offers guidance for transitioning toward more sustainable, lower-emission concrete systems.
