More than 50 architects, engineers, contractors and developers from throughout Ohio and Kentucky (shown here) toured the jobsite of a new all concrete hotel project in Newport, KY, earlier this month. With three insulating concrete form (ICF) floors complete, the seven-story dual-brand Hilton project will quickly become another anchor in the revitalized downtown area across the Ohio River from Cincinnati.

NRMCA co-sponsored an educational program that coincided with the tour organized by the Ohio Concrete association and Kentucky Concrete Association. In addition to the site tour, attendees learned about the continued economic development plans in the area from the Kenton County deputy executive director and community development manager. More insulating concrete form projects are planned for this area; they're quickly becoming an important asset to support nearby major league sports and entertainment venues.

Structural Design with ICFs was the next topic; Schafer-Inc., the engineers on the job, talked about the ease of design on one of many all concrete ICF projects the firm has completed. Finally, Ryan Bedford, principal with Bedford Development and Matt Green, vice president of business development, KB Walker, the ICF installers on the project, teamed up to discuss development and construction with these systems.

“ICF construction is far more than just stacking foam,” said Green, “We develop systems that drive exceptional in-field production rates, so we ensure our customers keep coming back, reshaping the future of construction materials in the process.”

The combined Home2 Suites and Tru by Hilton facility will be ready for occupancy in 2026. For more information, contact NRMCA Senior Director, Building Innovations, Donn Thompson at dthompson@nrmca.org.
