NRMCA Presents at AIA Central Massachusetts 2023 Design Awards

Last week, NRMCA Senior Director, Building Innovations, Frank Mruk presented the winners of the 2023 AIA Central Massachusetts Design Awards held at Architect Diller Scofidio + Renfro's - College of the Holy Cross PRIOR Performing Arts Center in Worcester. The Arts Center, opened in late 2022, was designed as an incubator for multidisciplinary creativity and is known for its innovative precast concrete curtain walls which line the auditorium’s interior.

Mruk was one of three invited jurors which also included Ken Filarski, FAIA, and Ludmila Pavlova-Gillham of UMASS Amherst. Design award winning projects included Best in Competition (Unity Hall by Gensler), Honor Award (Wellness Center, Franklin Food Pantry), Fuller School by Jonathan Levi Architects, YWCA of Central Mass by Fennick McCredie Architects, Merit Award (Acton Passive House and Performance Health Center), Citation Award (Backyard Studio) and Honorable Mention Award (Glass Sandwich, Medical Office Building, Residences at Main & Ocean).

Student scholarships were also given to students from Worchester Polytechnic Institute and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Mruk is shown above with the all-women team of Fennick McCredie Architects which won an Honor Award for the YMCA of Central Mass project. More than 120 architects attended the event.
