On September 11, NRMCA Senior Director, Building Innovations, and American Institute of Architects (AIA) Rhode Island Chapter President Frank Mruk hosted the sold out AIA RI/AIA Architecture Forum Golf Classic at the Agawam Hunt Club in Rumford, RI. (Shown here are, left to right, Ryan Haggerty of Vision 3 Architects, Mruk, Roni Phipps, executive director, AIA RI and and Paul Hauser, also of Vision 3 Architects). The AIA Rhode Island Architectural Forum is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that was established by AIA Rhode Island to support educational programs within the architectural community. The forum’s primary vehicle for supporting architectural education is the scholarship program; multiple scholarships are awarded to qualified financial aid eligible students studying architecture.

Funding for architectural scholarships is provided by proceeds from the annual golf outing. To date, the Architectural Forum has awarded over $149,000 in scholarships funded by AIA Rhode Island’s endowment with the RI Foundation and other donations from AIA National and the family of Norton E. Salk, AIA. AIA Rhode Island’s Golf Classic donates all proceeds to the scholarship fund.

Sponsors included NRMCA, Tremco, Nudura, Vantage Builders, Building Engineering Resources Inc., Bentley, Avid Engineers, Gilbane, Vision 3 Architects, Omnilite Illuminate, South County Design, Signal Works, Auburn Construction Co., J2 Construct, JC&A, Engineering Design Services, Spectrum Lighting, Pella Windows & Doors, Bowerman Construction, The Foundry Associates, Bentley Companies, Salesmaster, Building Enclosure Science, South Coast Glazing, Dimeo Construction Company, Apex Lighting Solutions, KBA, WB Engineers, Creative Office Resources, Pariseault Builders, Building Engineering Resources, Shaw Contract, and Site Specific.

More than 150 architects and industry professionals attended the event. Over $40,000 in student architecture scholarships were raised, more than doubling the previous year's event. The scholarships will be presented at the AIA RI Design Awards ceremony on December 8 at the Dye House in Providence, RI.

The Build With Strength program is a leader in supporting AIA chapters and young architects at the cutting edge of industry best practices. For more information, contact Frank Mruk at fmruk@nrmca.org.
