It was great to see familiar faces and meet new industry professionals in New Orleans for METALfab 2022. We had a great lineup of education sessions over 1.5 days that delivered valuable content for industry professionals at all levels of their career.
 
The tradeshow kicked off in true New Orleans fashion with NOMMA and AFA leaders tossing jerry beads featuring the FENCETECH/METALfab logo to the crowd. Our exhibitors and attendees connected to see the latest products and services. In the NOMMA booth, we celebrated the individuals who purchased a leaf as part of the Ascend Leaf Presentation Ceremony, members stopped by to vote for Top Job, and we had a great display of silent auction items.
   
 
We came together to recognize our fellow professionals at the NOMMA Awards Dinner. Immediately following the dinner, attendees enjoyed a fun and engaging experience during the live auction.

 The Upper Midwest Chapter created the Todd K. Kinnikin Memorial METALfab scholarship to honor the memory of Todd Kinnikin who was a long-time member of NOMMA who believed in the value of NOMMA. Todd served on the NOMMA board and was a huge advocate for industry education.
The Kinnikin scholarship is awarded to a NOMMA fabricator member to allow the individual to attend METALfab. This year’s recipient was Austin Popenhagen from Wells Spiral Stairs. We congratulate Austin and look forward to seeing him grow in NOMMA and the industry.

The March Roundtable was a State of the Association led by NOMMA President Tony Martinez. Tony discussed what is happening within NOMMA. He shared with the attendees the importance of volunteering.

Materials: Mild steel bar stock
Finish: Burnished enamel with satin clear. Brass leaf gilded leaves.
Total Labor Hours: 550
Congratulations to Metal Head, Inc., NOMMA's 2022 Mitch Heitler Award Winner, and Ernest Wiemann Top Job Competition People's Choice Award winner. Metal Head Inc. won the awards for its project submitted under Category E: Interior Railings - Ferrous and Nonferrous - Forged.
This grand stair railing was inspired by the Rodin Museum in Paris, France. The scrollwork was entirely hand forged from 3/8"x3/4" bar into the form of a double tapered penny scroll, and the leaves were gileded in brass leaf to accent the French antique finials that sit atop the 1-1/2" solid newel posts.
The railing framework was built on site, and fitted to a 2" embedded channel pre-drilled and tapped for a bolt in installation after scrollwork and finishing.
The breathtaking result of Metal Head Inc.'s skilled work is a grand stair worthy of French royalty.

Small Business Trends
According to AAA, the average cost of a gallon of diesal gas has jumped by 51 cents within a week. The price per gallon is now $5.13, up from $4.61 about a week ago. By comparison, this time last year the price was $3.073.
Since the nation's supply chains (including trucking fleets) rely on diesel fuel, businesses may want to factor in potential additional costs incurred on logistic and delivery services.
