Investigators are recommending fire departments take special care with retrofits and specialized vehicles after a Washington Fire Chief was killed when his vehicle overturned and pinned him. Chief was killed when the vintage 1960s off-road vehicle he was driving rolled down a steep slope, pinning him.

USFA: Record Low for On-Duty Firefighter Deaths in 2010

Last year saw the lowest recorded number of on-duty firefighter deaths since the USFA began tracking totals, according to preliminary statistics. The administration first started collating the figures in 1977 and 85 firefighter fatalities were recorded in 2010.

Firefighter Sues FDNY and City Over Career-Ending Injuries

A New York City firefighter is suing the city and FDNY for injuries allegedly suffered when he tripped over pot-growing paraphernalia while tackling an apartment fire. Richard LaPiedra claims they were negligent by failing to provide him proper protection to remove the drug-growing equipment and for not giving him a safe means of access.
