NYSAFC Spring 2011 Seminar Series "The Incident Tactics System"

The association's Spring Seminar Series with Lieutenant (Ret.) Bob Pressler, FDNY kicks-off on February 3, 2011 in Saratoga County. It will be held in nine other locations across the state: Rensselaer, Onondaga, Monroe, Niagara, Cattaraugus, Sullivan (new site for 2011), Chemung, Clinton, and Otsego Counties. Registration is $15 for NYSAFC members and $25 for non-members. Click here for a full schedule and to download a pre-registration form. You can also register at the door at all locations.

The introduction of the incident command system (ICS) has led to fireground operations being more efficiently and managed. Unfortunately, the ICS will manage the operation, even if the tactics that are being employed are incorrect and sometimes even dangerous to our operating companies. The incident tactics system (ITS) was developed so that fire departments that use the ICS to manage their fires will also have a system in place to help them select and manage the tactics that are needed to successfully bring the incident under control. The ITS identifies the tactics needed to operate on the fireground by breaking down the typical fires that most departments respond to. The fires are classified by the expected resources needed to safely and efficiently bring the operation under control, and through the system, how to expand the tactics as the incident conditions change.

Company Officers Leadership Training (COLT)

Company officers are often responsible for the day-to-day operations of their departments and it is critical that their training be of the highest caliber. These individuals also represent the future of fire service leadership. To safeguard that future, NYSAFC offers the Company Officers Leadership Training (COLT) program from April 1-2, 2011 at the Embassy Suites Buffalo in Buffalo, NY.

Practical and inspiring guidance will be offered by an impressive slate of nationally recognized experts. COLT will feature: Lieutenant Michael Ciampo – FDNY "Through the Windshield – Through the Truck Officer’s Eyes," Chief James Clack – Baltimore (MD) Fire Department "Minneapolis Responds – The Interstate 35W Bridge Collapse," Coordinator of Fire Instruction Michael Healy – Rockland County Fire Training Center & Firefighter Robert LaGrow – FDNY "The Engine Company Officer," and NYS Instructor/Retired Deputy Chief Paul Melfi – National Fallen Firefighters Foundation "Leadership Safety for the 21st Century."

Registration is $150 for NYSAFC Individual and Department members and $175 for non-members. Click here for complete information and a pre-registration form. On-site registration will also be available!
