Chief Robert R. Kloepfer Jr. of the Floral Park Fire Department (Nassau County) was formally sworn in as NYSAFC president on July 17, 2021, during the 115th Annual Conference & FIRE 2021 Expo in Syracuse, NY. Congratulations to the 2021-2022 officers of the New York State Association of Fire Chiefs.
 
NYSAFC will be sharing photos from the 115th Annual Conference & FIRE 2021 Expo later this summer. The convention was held July 14-17. Mark your calendars for FIRE 2022 – June 15-18 – in Syracuse, NY! Attendee and exhibitor registration will be opening soon.
 
Memorial fundraiser held in conjunction with the NYSAFC 115th Annual Conference & FIRE 2021 Expo honored the firefighters who lost their lives in the September 11 attacks almost 20 years ago.

Six people have been charged as a result of a continuing investigation into the fatal fire at the Evergreen Court Home for Adults in March. Firefighter Jared Lloyd and resident Oliver Hueston died in the fire and building collapse.

The Regional Hands-On Training programs "Flashover," "Fire Behavior On the Inside," and "Beyond the Basics" are all scheduled at sites across New York state. Registration is open for the classroom-based 2021 Seminar Series: “The ABCs of Rescue Company Operations” and the free "Fire/EMS Behavioral Health: The Price We Pay" workshop series.

Chester Moscicki, 99, received an official ribbon for his service from the U.S. Air Force and FDNY Fire Officers Association.
 
A rescue dog in Orange County – Nick the Newburgh Firedog – now has a book written about him. The popular pooch is not only one of the guys at the city fire department, he's also a TikTok sensation.
 
Josh Myers, chief with Seneca Hose Co. 1 in West Seneca, has noticed a decline in volunteer applicants since the pandemic and urges all western New Yorkers to consider completing volunteer firefighter training as a way to better serve the community.
