HIPAA Resources Published
The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) was originally enacted in 1996 to encourage computerization of medical records. Since its inception, it has been poorly understood and frequently misapplied by both hospitals and EMS. Recently, the folks from NHTSA with the EMS law firm PWW published a succinct "HIPAA Basics for EMS Practitioners" fact sheet/poster. You can download a copy here.

Vital Signs Conference Registration Open
The New York State EMS Vital Signs Conference has opened registration here. After succumbing to COVID last year, it will be held this November 11-14 in Saratoga Springs, NY (the home of Saratoga County EMS Coordinator Mike McEvoy). Vital Signs will feature multiple pre-conference sessions including the all-day “Innovations in Medical Oversight” presented by the New York Chapter of the National Association of EMS Physicians.
