Substantial proportions of associations are struggling to meet revenue targets, according to a new survey, and lack the budget strategy infrastructure that might improve their fortunes.
The Association Business Development Landscape Report, released last month by Professionals for Association Revenue (PAR), reports that less than half of association executives said they will meet their budget targets for membership (48 percent) and nondues meeting sponsorship (48 percent). Even fewer said they’ll meet targets for attendee registration (41 percent) and exhibits (39 percent). The report was based on a survey of 100 association executives conducted over 18 months.

In the Convene Live: “From Stats to Stories — Making Event Data Work for You” session at Convening Leaders 2023, Joe Colangelo, founder of event data company Bear Analytics, shared the challenges event organizers are facing when it comes to figuring out how to make data work for them.
In the first half of the session, Colangelo presented his insights and took questions from the audience. In the second half, he played video recordings of his Zoom interviews with two different clients, each of which served as a case-study example of how event marketers are using data to inform decisions in the lead-up to the event to make it more successful.

Creating Inclusive Hiring, Onboarding, and Lifecycle Processes for your Association
Wednesday, May 10, 2023 - 1:30 PM ET

As an association manager or executive, how do you demonstrate diversity, equity, and inclusion in the actions that you take? Executives can positively, or negatively, impact hiring, onboarding, training, engagement, coaching, advancement, and retention, but too often they don’t understand the importance of structural inclusion or how they can demonstrate behavioral inclusion in their actions.

This session will help association managers and executives understand how to identify processes, systems, and structures within the organization that perpetuate negative bias, how to interact with structures that exemplify inclusion, and mitigate misunderstandings or a lack of engagement around equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Association managers and executives will learn strategies to effectively position themselves to have a positive impact on the managers and employees of the organization, helping to bring their full potential, identities, perspectives, and skills to their work and customer relationships.

We’ll discuss the stages of the employee lifecycle, how to acculturate new people into the organization through inclusive onboarding best practices, how to actively drive inclusion throughout the entire hiring process, and how to achieve breakthrough results by embedding diversity, equity, and inclusion into association systems and practices using an equity lens.

Because it's not a matter of if future challenges will come your way, it's a matter of if you'll be resilient to handle them when they do.
