Describe your new role.

The Home Care Alliance has many functions, but for simplicity I like to think of them in three ways: 1. Advocacy, 2. Education and 3. Regulatory/Clinical Affairs support. My new role will be working with our Board of Directors to set the strategic goals of our organization and manage day to day execution of those goals with our staff. Above all, our mission is aimed at advancing community health through care in the home. So everything we do is through the lens of assisting our members in expanding access to services to people who wish to remain at home, and need the support to do so.

How did you get started in association management?

I came to the Home Care Alliance back in early 2017 as Director of Legislative and Public Affairs. My background has been government affairs and I have always been quite passionate. Early on in my tenure, however, I began realizing that I was quite interested in the overall function and mission of Associations. My predecessor always urged me to consider association management in the long-term, and I did keep an open mind. I participated in the NESAE Emerging Leaders program and tried to absorb as much knowledge and mentorship from my predecessor as possible in recent years.

What role do you think associations will play in 2022?

I think associations are proving to be essential to their members in 2022. For one, the pandemic has created so much uncertainty and change for every industry. Associations have the ability for industries to coalesce around a central representative organization, with a united voice, and as a hub of information. For health care in particular, the challenges for providers the past two years is obvious. But beyond the pandemic, health care is becoming increasingly integrated across provider-types. This is forcing each provider type to develop strategic relationships with organizations outside of their industry. Associations will be critical in facilitating this type of integration between their memberships.
