The NENA Executive Board is currently accepting applications from members in good standing to serve on the Nominating Committee. This group is tasked with reviewing and certifying candidates for the 2014-15 Executive Board Election pursuant to NENA's bylaws, policies, and procedures. NENA is pleased to open the nominations process for our 2014-2015 Executive Board election! This election will be for the following positions: Second Vice President, Southeastern Regional Director, Western Regional Director, and Private Sector Director. All nominees must be current members in good standing and current Emergency Number Professionals (ENPs). Nominees for the position of Regional Director must reside in the region they wish to represent.

NENA's Center Manager Certification Program (CMCP) is designed to equip recently hired, newly promoted, and aspiring PSAP and 9-1-1 Authority managers and supervisors with the tools needed to effectively manage their agency through a rigorous 40-hour course of lecture and lab-based education. OPS UPDATE
Chrysler Group LLC recently announced that, as part of its new suite of connected services called Uconnect® Access, select vehicles now come equipped with a built-in data connection as well as a 9-1-1 button on the rear-view mirror. Occupants in vehicles with Uconnect Access can push the 9-1-1 button to connect to the appropriate PSAP who can dispatch responders to an accident scene, if necessary.

NENA’s only intent in distributing this information is in ensuring that our membership, and public safety in general, have as much information as possible regarding a new service which will impact PSAP operations and personnel.

TECH UPDATE
The Policy Routing Rules (PRR) WG focuses on the development of rules in a NG9-1-1 system that supports the diversion of calls when the target PSAP is unavailable or unable to take those calls. Version 1 of the standard was approved in August 2013. The PRR WG will now undertake the development of an operations guide for 9-1-1 Authorities. This document will provide background and recommendations on defining Policy Routing Rules for 9-1-1 Authorities at all levels that are involved in NG9-1-1 implementations.

GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS UPDATE
The Next Generation 9-1-1 Institute (NG9-1-1 Institute) has announced the results of its 2013 election for the six open seats on the organization’s Board of Directors. These professionals provide expertise, guidance, and their time as they work together to further the advancement of public safety communications and support the Congressional NextGen 9-1-1 Caucus.
The NG9-1-1 Institute membership elected the following six individuals to the Board of Directors:
- Alisa Simmons of Fort Worth, TX; representing the Education Professional position;
- Judith Weshinskey-Price of Amarillo, TX; representing the Member at Large position;
- Mark Spross of Oregon City, OR; representing the Member at Large-Public Safety position;
- Mehran Nazari of Great Falls, VA; representing the Small Telecommunications Carrier position;
- Tim Lorello of Annapolis, MD; representing the Vendor/Integrator/Software position; and
- Todd Piett of Framingham, MA; representing the Vendor/Integrator/Software position.

Recently, the House Committee on Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Communications and Technology held a hearing entitled, The Evolution of Wired Communications Networks. While IP-based technology offers many advantages in terms of speed, capacity, and other valuable efficiencies, there are concerns about how the networks will perform certain vital consumer service functions. Among the concerns are whether the transition to IP networks will impact the provision of 9-1-1 service; whether IP networks, which are dependent on commercial power, are reliable enough to replace existing systems in times of emergency; and, how the consumer protection provisions of title II, including the role of the States, will evolve in an all-IP world.

HELP WANTED
NENA's new and improved career center now offers more options and search functionality to job seekers and recruiters, including the ability to browse openings by category, subscribe to receive email notifications of new openings, and apply for openings directly online. Recruiters can now view and rate candidates applying for openings, search the resume database of available candidates (members-only feature), and manage postings online.
UPCOMING EVENTS
NENA and URISA are pleased to announce the newly re-engineered Locating the Future Conference (formerly known as the URISA/NENA Addressing Conference). The conference will take place at the historic Union Station in St. Louis, MO, from November 3-6, 2013.
With the new theme comes an invigorated slate of topics relating to location, addressing, public safety, emergency management, and 9-1-1. The world is changing at a rapid pace, and technologies related to location are more and more common. How do location and addressing adapt?
