If you're attending NENA 2019, come be a part of this community where women and allies connect, share, and support each other!

The WIN Meet Up is taking place on Tuesday, June 18 from 4PM - 5PM at Wreckers Sports Bar at the Gaylord Palms. While not required, if you plan on attending we encourage you to RSVP and include your name, agency/company, indicate whether you are interested in volunteering in the WIN Alliance, and identify whether you see yourself as a potential mentor or mentee.

FREE for NENA Members! Click here to register!

As dispatchers, one of the worst incidents we can handle is a line-of-duty death. It's not something we want to think about or experience, but it is something that we should be prepared to handle – both in the moment and long term. Attend this webinar to hear from a veteran dispatcher, who is also the daughter of a fallen officer, to learn about:

  • The event timeline, from the radio traffic to the funeral;
  • Ways to identify and deal with the trauma and stress; and
  • How to set up appropriate plans and processes for your agency.
Presenter: Dawn Veirs – Hendricks County (IN) Communication Center

CEUs: Attend this webinar and receive one-half ENP re-certification point towards the ten-point maximum for NENA courses in the Professional Development CEU/Course Credits section.

Can't attend on the 29th? Register now and you will receive an email after the live presentation with instructions for accessing the on-demand webinar archive.

Document Announcements

NENA is pleased to announce that version 3 of the NENA i3 Standard for Next Generation 9-1-1 (American National Standard Candidate NENA-STA-010.3-201x) is available for public review and comment. This standard provides detailed functional and interface specifications for Next-Generation 9-1-1 (NG9-1-1) and serves as the foundation for NENA’s suite of NG9-1-1 standards.

Version 3 includes key updates to NG9-1-1 infrastructure to ensure continued support for interoperability on a national and international scale, including functional elements that allow for the discovery of NG9-1-1 systems (a Forest Guide) and a root of trust (PSAP Credentialing Agency [PCA]). Additional version 3 changes include a move to a REST/JSON architecture for data interactions between functional elements and systems, improvements to security, major updates to the call bridging (Bridging Service), updates to novel call types (including non-interactive calls and Advanced Automatic Crash Notifications [AACNs]), and more. These changes not only improve i3 on its own, but also bring it into compliance with recent updates in related standards families, such as the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) internet standards.

i3 is an open standard developed with the contribution of a large community of industry, academic, and public-safety experts. NENA’s development process is always open to all.

A considerable trove of written material and standards exists about NG9-1-1 within NENA, as well as other standards bodies and industry organizations. The NENA NG9-1-1 Go-To Handbook provides guidance to help 9-1-1 authorities create a smooth, timely, and efficient project-management approach and transition plan to implement NG9-1-1 and assist in answering the question, "Where does one start to gain a more complete understanding of all the materials available about NG9-1-1?"

The NENA Standard for Communications Center/PSAP Daily Personnel Operations is available for Public Review and Comment. This standard contains both normative requirements and prohibitions as well as examples, recommendations, and options to assist PSAP managers with the development of agency specific Daily Personnel Operations policies and procedures. Use of this standard will assist agencies in the creation of a cohesive and comprehensive SOP, standardize methods for defining operational procedures for communications centers and/or PSAPs, and provide guidance for agencies in creating agency-specific policies and procedures.

You may both download this document for review and submit your comments here. Also, please submit a copy of all comments to psa@ansi.org.

All comments are due by midnight Eastern on July 1, 2019. Contact the NENA Committee Resource Manager with any questions.

The NENA Request for Proposal Considerations Information Document is intended for 9‑1‑1 authorities that have made the decision to issue an RFP for the purpose of procuring all or part of a Next Generation 9‑1‑1 (NG9‑1‑1) system. Specifically, this document recommends a structure and content to guide a project team that has been given the charter to develop an RFP. It anticipates that other work has been done and decisions have been made that support the development of the RFP.

You may both download this document for review and submit your comments here. Only sections highlighted in yellow are subject to this review.

All comments are due by midnight Eastern on June 7, 2019. You may contact the NENA Committee Resource Manager with any questions or concerns.

Volunteers Wanted

The NENA Institute Board requests that all ENPs volunteer an hour of their time in the ENP booth at #NENA2019. We would like your help to spread the word about the ENP certification and the professional benefits of obtaining the designation. Booth volunteer duty is for one hour during your selected time slot.

Please consider setting aside a small fraction of time during the conference to help further the ENP program and provide future ENPs the opportunity to hear from an industry professional about the importance of ENP certification. You'll also receive volunteer points toward your own ENP re-certification.

Click here to sign up and pick your time.
