To kick off National 9-1-1 Education Month, NENA, with support from Comcast, released a pair of thirty-second videos highlighting the life-saving services provided by America’s 9-1-1 professionals and the need to modernize our nation’s 9-1-1 system. Both videos are available on NENA’s YouTube Channel and can be downloaded by 9-1-1 public educators for local use from NENA’s 9-1-1 Education Month webpage. The first video, "Thank You, 9-1-1," is a salute to 9-1-1 professionals across the country, encouraging public appreciation of these unsung heroes of public safety who answer more than 240 million calls for help each year. The second video, "Next Generation 9-1-1 Now," focuses on the need to transition from today’s overwhelmingly voice-centric 9-1-1 service to Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG911). Document Announcements
The NENA Information Document for Location Validation Function Consistency builds upon the specifications provided in NENA‑STA‑010 related to the Location Validation Function (LVF) and the Location to Service Translation (LoST) protocol. As there is room for interpretation within these documents, the goal of this informational document is to outline recommendations that LVF stakeholders, including operators, implementers, Geographic Information System (GIS) personnel and LVF clients can follow to help ensure responses to LoST queries to different LVFs are consistent. It also provides recommendations for LVF client systems as to how the recommendations for the responses can be utilized and provides operational guidance to the stakeholders listed above. Washington Briefing
In response to the FCC's adoption of a Notice of Inquiry seeking comment on ways to improve 9-1-1 call routing, NENA released the following statement: Location-based routing is a fundamental element of NG9-1-1 that will decrease the time it takes to respond to emergencies. The FCC itself estimates that 10,000 lives could be saved each year if the emergency dispatching system (9-1-1) could get help one minute sooner to those calling for emergency assistance. NENA is glad to see the Commission taking action on this important issue and thanks them for their continued commitment to improving our nation’s 9-1-1 system.
