The landscape of public safety and geospatial technologies is rapidly evolving. The integration of 2D and 3D indoor mapping is becoming critical for enhanced display purposes, NG9-1-1 location validation, and call routing. This transformation extends far beyond school safety or tactical response, encompassing a broader vision of public safety and operational efficiency. A standardized GIS data model for indoor mapping is urgently needed.
This working group will produce a NENA Requirements Document (REQ) which, upon publication, will then pursue an ANSI-accredited standard. The working group's current document efforts can be found in the associated Charter. Ideally, work group membership will include participants with:
- GIS data production and maintenance experience
- Indoor mapping experience
- 9-1-1 telecommunicators, first responders, and/or their management that have either worked with indoor maps or would have benefitted from their use
- NGCS and PSAP system providers (e.g. call handling, computer aided dispatch, and over-the-top mapping applications
- Other indoor mapping stakeholders (school resource officers, site security manager, facility managers, fire inspectors, crime analysts, emergency managers)
