A valid and legally defensible credentialing examination, like NENA's Emergency Number Professional (ENP) certification exam, is built upon a well-designed and current Job Analysis. To that end, the NENA Institute Board (NIB), the body charged with overseeing the ENP Program, will conduct a new Job Analysis over the next year.
A Task Force of subject matter experts will compile statements of knowledge, tasks, and competencies, as well as rating scales, to be used in a survey of ENPs. Survey results will then be used to develop an updated Body of Knowledge, an improved Item Bank of questions for the ENP exam, and new examination forms for future ENP examinations.
Through the Job Analysis process, the ENP examination will continue to reflect the Body of Knowledge needed to demonstrate competence in the 9-1-1 industry. Those who sit for the examination can remain assured that all questions on the exam are consistent with current job responsibilities of 9-1-1 professionals and will continue to be, as supported by this Job Analysis.
Anyone having questions about the Job Analysis may contact NENA contractor Bob Cobb or the Institute Board's Nick LaMontia.
