Version 2 (v2) of the NG9-1-1 GIS Data Model Templates directly interprets version 2 of the NENA Standard for NG9-1-1 GIS Data Model provide a standardized schema for the exchange of data between agencies and their vendors. In addition, the GIS Data Model Templates ensure that the NG9-1-1 GIS Data Model is not interpreted differently between entities.

For v2, the GIS Data Model Templates were migrated to NENA’s GitHub Repository to improve version control management. In addition to aligning the GIS Data Model Templates to the latest version of the NG9-1-1 GIS Data Model, the following enhancements were included:

  • Refactored Python script to support ArcGIS Desktop 10.2 or later and ArcGIS Pro.
  • Added ArcGIS Toolboxes for ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Desktop 10.x.
  • Added extensive documentation.

While the primary purpose of the GIS Data Model Templates is to provide a standardized schema for the exchange of data between agencies and their vendors, the scripts and tools provided may be used by GIS Data Providers as a template for managing their own NG9-1-1 data. Each GIS Data Provider is expected to adapt the scripts and extend the schema to meet their specific organizations’ needs and requirements.

Currently, two data structures are provided as part of the NG9-1-1 GIS Data Model Templates package: An open-source version based on a PostgreSQL/PostGIS database and a version based on the Esri File Geodatabase format. The templates are available here.
