NENA: The 9-1-1 Association (NENA) salutes the March 24 introduction of the Next Generation 9-1-1 Act of 2023, by U.S. Reps. Anna Eshoo (D-CA) and Richard Hudson (R-NC). This bipartisan legislation would provide up to $15 billion to help states and localities accelerate the Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG9-1-1) transition.
NG9-1-1 provides multimedia capabilities, enables broadband applications, and ensures system resiliency that most current 9-1-1 systems lack. Without the funding from this bill, the nation will continue to have NG9-1-1 "haves" and "have-nots," putting lives at unnecessary risk. The NG9-1-1 Act of 2023 must pass the U.S. Congress this year to ensure this critical upgrade is available for all Americans.
