Last week, NENA announced that the landmark new version of its Next Generation 9-1-1 standard has received full approval from the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), confirming that NENA’s development of the standard complied with all ANSI Essential Requirements.

Version 3 of NENA's i3 Standard for Next Generation 9-1-1 serves as the foundation for a 21st-century, broadband-based 9-1-1 ecosystem and includes key updates to NG9-1-1 infrastructure, paving the way for 9-1-1-system interoperability on a national and international scale.

"NENA volunteers worked tirelessly to develop and publish i3 Version 3 through the rigorous, consensus-based processes that NENA is known for," said NENA President Jennifer White, ENP. "ANSI’s approval validates this process and provides the public-safety community with further confidence in this comprehensive, open standard for NG9-1-1. This will no doubt hasten and strengthen 9-1-1’s collective push to see NG9-1-1 systems, services, and products deployed from coast to coast."
