NAFA’s Board of Directors recognizes the importance of this sense of community, as well as the critical nature of having segment-specific content. That is why the Board has developed goals and approved plans that will ensure NAFA continues to be the most relevant and thriving source for peer interaction and valuable segment-specific information. Last month, the Board began putting in motion a progressive initiative that will make sure this happens.

Features in this edition: Congress is getting ready to introduce S. 3052, the Heavy Truck, Tractor, and Trailer Retail Federal Excise Tax Repeal Act, legislation that would repeal the excise tax on heavy trucks and trailers with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) in excess of 33,000 pounds.
 
A ruling that would end the need for commercial motor vehicle drivers to carry medical cards has been delayed for three years, according to a recent interim final rule issued by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.
 
The Senate is close to finalizing legislation that would update federal career and technical education programs. Negotiations are still ongoing, but the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee will reportedly markup a 73-page staff discussion draft on June 26.
 
 
   
The federal-provincial political harmony which characterized the first year of the Trudeau administration appears to be coming to an end, and with it comes policy consequences that may be felt for years. In truth, such an alignment is uncommon. Canadian voters are moving back toward a reversion to the norm: a balanced split between the political parties. Policy changes are likely looming.
