Drowsy driving-related roadway fatalities spike in the early morning hours, with 6 am to 7 am, marking the deadliest span, according to a study by SleepJunkie, a website focused on improving sleeping habits. The hours just before and after — 5 am to 6 am and 7 am to 8 am — were the second and third most fatal times, according to the report, which used National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) data. The revelation dispels the myth that the sleepy-driver threat peaks in the nighttime hours.

Honda has added yet another weapon in its battle to find owners of vehicles with a potentially faulty Takata airbag module: independent repair shops. Technology

With more and more automakers beginning to roll out longer-range electric vehicles that can get hundreds of miles on a single charge, there has been more of a push by federal regulators to bring alternative power into the mainstream. The Obama Administration's plan to address the lack of places to charge electric vehicles is a simple one: add charging stations on 55 interstate highways, covering 25,000 miles, in 35 different states across the country.

The German magazine Bild Am Sontag reported that the California Air Resources Board (CARB) had discovered that unspecified Audi vehicle models were running illegal software to bring carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions within legal limits under laboratory conditions. The software, according to the magazine, also killed CO2 emissions controls while the Audis were driven under normal conditions, much like the defeat device scandal involving VW, Audi, and Porsche vehicles that was exposed last September.

Tesla Motors plans to stop offering unlimited use of its cross-continent network of high-speed EV superchargers to anyone who buys one of its vehicles after January 1, 2017. The battery carmaker hasn’t said what it will now charge new buyers, but claims it will "cost less than the price of filling up a comparable gas car."

Long focused on hydrogen-electric vehicles, Toyota Motor Company announced that it is reversing it's course on the technology. While they will still work on hydrogen fuel cell technology, the brand will begin to make a push towards developing a long range battery-electric vehicle that can compete with cars like the new Chevy Bolt.
