In early-July, the Oregon State Legislature passed Senate Bill 810, the first-ever legislation passed in the United States to establish a road usage charge system for transportation funding. Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber, a strong supporter of the legislation, will sign the bill into law.

General Motors and Honda Motor Co. will partner to develop a common system for fuel cell vehicles with the goal of getting them into showrooms by 2020, the companies said on July 2. Global fleet services provider ARI announced on July 8 that it has acquired the fleet management segment of Fleetlevel+ Services GmbH's business holdings. The transaction is expected to close in August. The new company will be known as ARI Fleet Germany.

Merchants Fleet Management announced that Ken Kauppila has joined the company as Chief Information Officer as of May 23. At Merchants, Kauppila will spearhead the IT department and initiatives on both operations and business development sides of the organization.
A 49-year-old commercial truck driver who was drunk when he crashed into an oncoming car on Oregon's Interstate 205 -- after driving the wrong way for 11 miles -- was sentenced to six months in jail. Kenneth Eugene Burgess, 49, pleaded guilty to third-degree assault, driving under the influence of intoxicants and reckless endangerment.
