Ford Motor Company and the United Auto Workers union (UAW) have reached a tentative agreement on a new four-year labor contract covering approximately 41,000 UAW-represented employees in the United States. Chrysler Group LLC and the UAW reported a tentative agreement covering approximately 26,000 represented employees.

Sheriff John Rutherford said on October 5 he is trying to manage his budget as the City Council and mayor have asked him to do, but without changes, thirty-four more officers could be laid off in March. Rutherford identified fleet management as an area where he could save money in his budget.
