Ford Motor Company and the United Auto Workers union (UAW) have reached a tentative agreement on a new four-year labor contract covering approximately 41,000 UAW-represented employees in the United States. Chrysler Group LLC and the UAW reported a tentative agreement covering approximately 26,000 represented employees.

The economy remains weak, confidence is shaky and a gallon of gas prices cost nearly $1 per more than in September 2010. Using a statistically-valid sample of data over a six-month period, over-reporting of mileage for expense reports rose to thirty-two percent at the peak of gas prices and was still over-reported at eighteen percent during the lowest period.

General Motors will sell a compressed natural gas (CNG) bi-fuel commercial pickup truck early in the fourth quarter of 2012. GM is currently the only manufacturer with a single-source commercial option with the Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana CNG cargo vans.

A report released on October 4 paints a gloomy future for cellulosic ethanol. Commissioned by Congress, the study says at the current pace the renewable fuel is unlikely to become a major source of energy for the U.S. But ethanol companies disagree with that assessment.

The new Ford Escape debuts next month as an all-new C-MAX Hybrid that's twenty-five percent more fuel efficient than today's Escape Hybrid. Electric car pioneer Thomas Gage has resigned the Chief Executive’s post at AC Propulsion. AC Propulsion said Gage did not say what he plans to do next except that he would remain involved with electric vehicles and would provide more details at a later date.
