According to new estimates from the Insurance Research Council (IRC) of Malvern, PA, across the United States, one out of every seven drivers is likely to be uninsured. The estimated percentage of uninsured motorists declined four straight years before rising to 14.3 percent in 2008 and dropping to 13.8 percent in 2009.

Renesas Electronics Corp., the world's biggest maker of automotive microcontrollers and a major element in Japan's parts shortage, issued a restart date for its last non-operational chip plant damaged in last month's earthquake. The company's tentative goal is to resume production of 200-millimeter wafers, the chips most often used in auto applications, at its Naka factory on June 15.
