MPIGNY 30/30
Message from Our President

The countdown to fall has begun. I hope you have all had a great summer so far and are looking forward to fall. I hear Dunkin Donuts is already serving gallons upon gallons of pumpkin spiced varieties of F&B.

August brought us more great events.

We gave back to the community at God’s Love We Deliver on Aug. 9. If you haven’t been able to make it to one of these activities, I highly suggest joining one in the future. Speaking of CSR, we have an activity set up on Sept. 14 at GMHC. To register for this event, interested volunteers should email the Director of CSR, Marisa Wilkes, CMP, at marisawilkes922@gmail.com by Sept. 7 with your name and email address. More information can be found on our website at the link below on the list of Upcoming Events.

The first Annual PCMA/MPIGNY Softball Game took place on Aug. 19 in Central Park. Unfortunately, MPIGNY lost, but a ton of fun was had by all, and we are looking forward to next year’s game! Keep this game in mind for next year as we will seek revenge!

Finally, the latest installment of our After 6 Mix was held on Aug. 24 at Sally Can Wait. From what I hear, it was a great event, and many new connections were made. Look out for the next event coming soon.

As I mentioned in my last message and will continue to all year 😊, it takes a big team of volunteers to execute these outstanding events. We need YOU, our members, to jump in and assist where you can. How can you help? What are your interests or skills? It doesn’t need to take a large amount of your time. It can be as little or as much as you would like to dedicate. We will work with you and your schedule. Please reach out to me or any of our Board Members if you want to or are able to get more involved with the Chapter. We would love to have you! You should have received an email from the Chapter with a survey titled “Find Your Fit.” Please complete the survey if you are interested in volunteering.

I'm looking forward to this month and next as we have some great events lined up. We will also host our next Education Event on Sept. 21 “Putting People First: The Business Case for Creating Safety & Engagement” at the Graduate Roosevelt Island. Registration is open, so click on the link below to register.
Hope to see you at some of our upcoming events!

GMHC’s Grab and Go Food Distribution Program was created in March 2020 when the GMHC building and dining room were closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Since then, GMHC has been distributing groceries each Wednesday through the Grab ‘n’ Go program, which is available to anyone in need regardless of HIV status. The program is now serving close to 1,000 meals each week.

The volunteer activity will consist of packing shelf stable pantry bags with basic supplies including locally sourced fresh produce, dairy, eggs, shelf stable foods, and hygiene kits. We will then distribute the bags from the lobby of the GMHC building to GMHC clients as well as the general public.

To register for this event, interested volunteers should email the Director of CSR, Marisa Wilkes, CMP, at marisawilkes922@gmail.com by Sept. 7 with your name and email address.

We are in the business of hospitality. Whether you are a meeting planner or a supplier, we put people first. We anticipate and meet their needs; and in a world where diversity, equity, and inclusion are becoming more prominent, we are tasked with creating safe spaces and inclusive relationships with our clients, hospitality partners, and ourselves.

In our first Educational Event of the 2022-2023 board year, we are delighted to present two terrific speakers to discuss the business case for creating safe events and the power of language in developing authentic relationships.

Our first speaker, Tim Mousseau, will dive into how we can design emotionally safe events. He will share how to advocate for our safety needs, overcome the status quo, and celebrate divergent viewpoints through simple actions that can lead to significant results at your events.

Our second speaker, Sue Hershkowitz-Coore, will talk about the power of language in developing strong relationships with your stakeholders. She will share the key to being persuasive with tips on showing authenticity and developing inclusive messaging that creates emotional certainty for your clients and partners.

Afterwards, we will have time for a short Q&A moderated by our own VP of Membership, Travis Pham, CMP.

At the end of this Educational Event, you will leave empowered with new insights into how you can continue putting people first through emotional intelligence and inclusivity.

Goals:

  • To empower our audience with new insights into how we can continue putting people first through emotional intelligence and inclusivity
  • Ensure guests understand the importance of DEI in our events
  • Create safe environments within our events for guests to thrive

The Past 30...

After a short break from our regular monthly sessions, we were thrilled to return last month to God’s Love We Deliver for another group volunteer session, helping out in the kitchen preparing meals for the sick and homebound of our community. It is truly rewarding knowing that our efforts serve to aid in the health and well-being of so many whoe rely on GLWD for their daily nutritional needs. If you have not had a chance to join us for this volunteer experience, we encourage you to join us next time. Please contact MPIGNY Director of CSR, Marisa Wilkes at marisawilkes922@gmail.com for more information.

We had a very successful first annual MPIGNY/PCMA softball game in Central Park followed by a happy hour reception. Thanks to all that played or just came to cheer and support. Sadly, we did not bring home the trophy this year, but we are already plotting our revenge for the 2nd Annual next year!

Big Thanks to Good Enough to Eat for hosting our post-game happy hour!

What an amazing turnout for our August After Six Mix at Sally Can Wait. We enjoyed seeing many new faces join us for some end of summer mingling. Thanks to everyone who came out! We are already planning the next one so keep an eye out for a save the date coming soon!

Chapter Opportunities

As you may know, London Convention Bureau has graciously sponsored a number of scholarships to cover the cost of a one-year planner membership to MPI. With many of our colleagues still reeling from the effects of the past two years, we want to be sure you know that there are still several scholarships available for qualified planners.

Now, more than ever, your MPI membership can provide the connections and industry relationships you need to move forward toward recovery.

Interested planners can apply here.

Find Your Fit!

At MPIGNY, our members are family, and in challenging times we believe in taking care of our own. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the financial hardships many are experiencing as a result, MPIGNY has set up a community support fund to provide monetary grants to our colleagues who need it most. If you are in need of assistance during this or any of life's more difficult moments, we may be able to help.
