MPIGNY 30/30
Message from Our President

I hope everyone is having a great summer so far. Can’t believe it is August already!

July was a great and busy month of networking for MPIGNY. We partnered with the Greater New York Chapter of HSMAI on the Summer Social at the brand-new Hard Rock Hotel New York. I am so sorry that I was not able to attend, but I’ve heard nothing but amazing feedback from the time spent together. And in case you missed it, we hosted another amazing day of networking last week at the 31st Annual Golf Outing at Harbor Links in Port Washington. Yet again it was a sell-out crowd and thoroughly enjoyed by all in attendance. Special shout out to all of our sponsors for the support and a huge THANK YOU to Kalahari Resorts & Conventions for being the Marquis Sponsor.

As I mentioned in my last message, it takes a big team of volunteers to execute these outstanding events. We need YOU, our members, to jump in and assist where you can. How can you help? What are your interests or skills? It doesn’t need to take a large amount of your time; it can be as little or as much as you would like to dedicate. We will work with you and your schedule. Please reach out to me or any of our Board Members if you would like to or are able to be more involved with the Chapter. We would love to have you! You should have received an email from the Chapter with a survey titled “Find Your Fit.” Please complete the survey if you are interested in volunteering.

Looking forward to this month and next, we have some great events lined up. We will also be hosting our next Education Event in September, so be on the look out for that once we have everything confirmed.

Hope to see you at some of our upcoming events!

After a short break from our regular monthly sessions, we are thrilled to announce that MPI Greater New York will be returning to God’s Love We Deliver for another group volunteer session this month! If you have been missing the "Love," please plan to join us, Tuesday, August 9, 4-7 p.m.

We look forward to once again returning to the God's Love kitchen to assist in meal preparation for the sick and homebound in our community who rely on GLWD for their daily nutritional needs.

Kitchen Prep (8-10 Volunteers)

Work as a group in the kitchen on a variety of tasks with the guidance of GLWD on-staff chefs. Tasks may include packaging meals, chopping vegetables, ladling soup, peeling potatoes or making meatballs. Volunteers may also package meal bundles for clients and assemble children's meal kits.

Clothes must cover your shoulders, underarms, knees and toes (with closed-toe shoes). Watches, bracelets and dangling earrings must be removed. You can bring your own hat! Masks and gloves will be provided.

Please make note of the COVID-19 protocols currently in place:

  • All volunteers are required to wear a mask, covering nose and mouth, while volunteering at God’s Love unless you are actively eating or drinking.
  • All volunteers must continue to be fully vaccinated without exception.
  • All deliveries will continue to be contactless.
  • Please refrain from volunteering at God’s Love if you’re not feeling well.
  • If you contract COVID-19 or have been in proximity of someone who tests positive, please do not volunteer at God’s Love for ten days from the date of the positive test.
  • Please let the Volunteer Department know immediately if you have tested positive for COVID-19 within ten days of your most recent shift.

PLEASE NOTE: Each volunteer MUST sign up for this event, and we ask all volunteers to arrive 15 minutes prior their shift for self-check-in and a quick orientation.  Please read the attached document regarding GLWD's COVID-19 vaccination protocols. Those who are not vaccinated will be unable to volunteer.

God’s Love We Deliver is located in SoHo at 166 Avenue of the Americas, convenient to the C or E train at Spring Street or the 1 train at Houston Street. The entrance is on the corner of Spring Street and 6th Avenue.

If you sign-up and are unable to make your shift, please cancel your session online AND contact Marisa Wilkes so that she can try to find a replacement.

The Next 30...And Beyond

We’re back to business and moving at 5G.  But how things have changed! Stakeholders and attendees have different needs and so do decision makers.

Zoom relationships developed over the past two years are not necessarily sustainable and cold calling has become colder. Too many RFPs—and responses—are focused on outdated criteria. It is clear that what used to work just isn’t as effective, and what got us here may not get us to where we want to be.

Nothing is the same, but change is a good thing. Driving value through emotional connections and experiences is how we can best meet the demanding needs of our stakeholders.

Whether it’s a vague feeling of being a bit rusty or eagerness to adapt to the latest communication and experiential trends, you will definitely want to join your planner and supplier colleagues at this dynamic event.

There is something for everyone as we learn about 1) business development and sales prospecting, and 2) experiential/engagement planning for a whole new meetings landscape.

Our distinguished speakers will be:

  • Sue Hershkowitz-Coore (aka SpeakerSue), High Impact Presentations, will enlighten us on how to rebuild sales relationships.
  • Danielle Cirami-Gillis, Vice President Strategic Partnerships, PRA Business Events, will explain how to plan an experience not just a meeting with the help of invited guests sharing real-life experiences.

CEU CREDITS:

  1. CMP-IS Domain G: Meeting or Event Design, 1.0 Clock Hour
  2. CMP-IS Domain A: Strategic Planning, 1.0 Clock Hour

The Past 30...

Summer Social Shines at New Hard Rock Hotel!

The weather forecast called for thunderstorms to rain on our first Summer Social, but miracle of miracles, not a drop fell on the hundred party goers that attended this incredible event at the new Hard Rock Hotel in Times Square. Jacqui Cox, the Director of Sales & Marketing, promised to roll out the red carpet, and she far exceeded our expectations. The RT60 Rooftop bar & Lounge is a luxurious space with two outdoor terraces that offer north and south views of the city. From the moment the first person walked through the door until the last call at 8 p.m., food and drink were plentiful and delicious. Kudos to the staff—bartenders, servers and managers—who worked hard to ensure we had a successful event. I think, given the great interaction among the attendees, that our members are still enjoying the post pandemic freedom that allows us all to once again get together in person.

The 2022 MPIGNY Kalahari Resorts Golf Outing was yet again one for the history books! Another exciting day out on Long Island at Harbor Links Golf Course, the annual event featured 29 foursomes, dozens of qualified meeting planners, and numerous suppliers from all over the country coming into town for this can’t-miss industry event.

The second annual “Day Of” activity agenda provided additional opportunities for those suppliers and planners who prefer not to golf to join us for the day. Sponsored by Discover Puerto Rico, The DMC Network and Blue Nest Events, the activities included painting mural panels in support of the Foundation for Hospital Art, a relaxing Reiki experience, and the opportunity to speak with career counseling professionals Amy Geffin and Ruth Robbins. Lunch was provided by our generous partners at Accor Hotels.

The MPIGNY Golf Committee is already beginning preparations on next year’s event. Please reach out to Mel Carter if you are interested in partnering together once again for 2023 and stay tuned for more specific details this winter.

Check out photos from the pre-golf Par-TEE, compliments of SimonProPhoto; and post-golf pics from Neil Braunstein of Incinerator Media.

THANK YOU to everyone who sponsored, donated, attended and supported this year’s amazing event! And special thanks to our Marquis Sponsor Kalahari Resorts and Conventions!

Chapter Opportunities

As you may know, London Convention Bureau has graciously sponsored a number of scholarships to cover the cost of a one-year planner membership to MPI. With many of our colleagues still reeling from the effects of the past two years, we want to be sure you know that there are still several scholarships available for qualified planners.

Now, more than ever, your MPI membership can provide the connections and industry relationships you need to move forward toward recovery.

Interested planners can apply here.

At MPIGNY, our members are family, and in challenging times we believe in taking care of our own. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the financial hardships many are experiencing as a result, MPIGNY has set up a community support fund to provide monetary grants to our colleagues who need it most. If you are in need of assistance during this or any of life's more difficult moments, we may be able to help.
