Happy March, MPIGNY!

With the erratic weather we are having, you would never guess spring is quickly approaching. Let’s hope when spring does actually arrive on Wednesday, March 20, it brings beautiful weather to New York City! The past 30 days has brought us together as a chapter on a few occasions. Whether it was to connect for our Winter Networking event at TWA Lounge, sponsored by Canada Business Events, or Monday evening’s education event at Convene with Corbin Ball where we discussed top technology trends transforming events, I am sure you were able to get your fill of MPIGNY this month. There is quite a bit coming up, including Global Meetings Industry Day on Thursday, April 4!

Global Meetings Industry Day (GMID) brings together leaders from across the meetings and events industry to showcase the real impact that business meetings, conferences, conventions, incentive travel, trade shows and exhibitions have on people, business and communities. Meeting professionals across the world participate in the international day of advocacy with more than 200 events held across six continents. 

MPIGNY will be hosting a meeting on April 4 at Convene 730 Park Avenue to discuss how we as an industry can help end child trafficking and exploitation.

On Monday, March 4, the weather cleared and our members gathered at Convene for an exciting presentation by Corbin Ball, one of our industry’s top tech influencers.

Ball reviewed the newest tech trends that are effecting events. Some of these trends are one-stop shop software platforms for managing events from registration to mapping; how smartphones are changing how events and exhibitions are being managed; and the internet of things (IoT), where everyday objects have network connectivity including smart guest rooms.

Site visits by virtual reality? Yes. Facial recognition so that your conference badge is printed by the time you reach the desk? Yes. Also discussed was how advanced analytic techniques are becoming essential. Now that you have all this data about your attendees, how do you use it? Everyone wow-ed at least once and all walked away with a much clearer picture of what’s on the tech horizon. Thanks to everyone who attended this enlightening educational meeting!

Yes, it’s possible. The MPI Foundation provides MPI members professional development and career opportunities through grants and scholarships. MPI Foundation scholarships are accepted on an ongoing basis. Applications received by the end of the month will receive notification by the end of the following month. Conference scholarships do not typically follow the normal application cycle but will be reviewed each month.
