MPIGNY 30/30
Message from Our President
All of us at MPIGNY hope that everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday with your families and friends. Each year, the holiday season always seems to be far away, and then, in a flash, it sneaks up on us. This year is no different!! Perhaps that is the real excitement of the holidays?

This time of the year is truly a time to give back and say thank you – to take a step back and reflect on what 2015 brought us and all of the great things that have happened, and to get excited about the endless opportunities for 2016.

As we at MPIGNY close out 2015 (and the first half of our official year), we are so thankful for all of the volunteers, the volunteers who work tirelessly for our chapter to make it better each and every day. We all share the same passion for our industry and we will continue to deliver great education, networking and programming for you, our members. We hope you have been able to take advantage of the great benefits of your membership and will continue to do so in the new year.

So, we ask that you get excited about 2016; the Board of Directors and working committees certainly are!! We will the hit the ground running with even more great educational events in the first quarter along with our now famous "After Six Mix" events. And, of course, don't forget about our Winter Networking Mixer.

Please let us know how we are doing. We love to hear from you and how we can serve you better. And, if you know someone who could be a new potential member of MPIGNY, please don’t keep it a secret! Let us know and we will help you let them know all that comes with being a member of our great chapter.

Here's to a great 2016 ... cheers!!!

The Next 30...And Beyond

Stay tuned for a full slate of events in 2016, including our first Education Event of the year on January 19 at Convene Midtown East. The event will be a Global Meetings Forecast Presentation including Q&A, presented by Yma Sherry, Vice President North America at American Express Meetings & Events.

Then, start up your New Year Networking at our After Six Mix on January 27 ... the exciting location will be announced shortly, so stay tuned!

We look forward to seeing you then!

The Past 30...

Thank you to all of you who made our 30th Annual Auction and Mixology a huge success!

Nine mixology teams plus more than 60 silent and live auction items plus 200 of you added up to a great night of networking and, of course, amazing and creative cocktails designed by our fantastic mixology teams.

Most importantly, the events' proceeds go to supporting our chapter’s programming, like the education you count on us to provide over the course of the year.

Special thanks to our Marquee Sponsor Saratoga Convention and Tourism Board, our Host Venue Langham Place New York, and to our beverage sponsors Reyka VodkaCellar Wines Distributing and Manhattan Beer Distributors. And a huge thanks to our photographer, Happening Photos, who always captures the best moments of our events.

And, thank you to all of our our Mixology Teams and congratulations to the 2015 Mixology Madness winner, the JW Marriott Essex House. We look forward to next year’s competition ... and cocktails!

Last week, MPIGNY and our Education Series sponsor Caesars Entertainment teamed up with the Event Leadership Institute to present two webinars, a first for MPIGNY. Presented by Howard Givner, the sessions covered Building Your Personal Brand and  New Thinking in Content Delivery & Engagement.

As a special holiday gift to the membership, from Caesars Entertainment and ELI, these sessions were offered complimentary to all MPIGNY members. So thank you to our generous sponsors. The attendance was great for our first webinar series and the cutting edge content was well received by all.

Continuing with their generosity, the Event Leadership Institute is offering all MPIGNY members access to a special discount. Get a 20 percent discount to ELI OnDemand Subscriptions and Professional Development Courses. The promotion is good through December 31, 2016, using PROMO CODE ELI_MPIGNY. Don't miss out!

On December 8, MPIGNY and HSMAIGNY, along with the New York chapters of ISES, PCMA  and SITE, celebrated NYC’s most festive season at our Holiday networking social.

With our Marquee Sponsor Kalahari Resorts and Conventions, we started the evening off dockside on the Hornblower Infinity and enjoyed delicious hors d’oeuvres, food stations, live entertainment, and, of course, some tasty libations. At 8 p.m. the magic really began as we departed for a  leisurely cruise downriver to check in with Lady Liberty herself.

Thanks to all that attended and helped us end the year on a positive note. And as always, a shout out goes to Happening Photos and Sure Shot Photo Booth for preserving the evening in photographic form.

A big thank you to our Marquee Sponsor: Kalahari Resorts and Conventions

Chapter Opportunities
Recent events across the globe have a lot of people on edge. Some countries have even gone as far as urging their citizens not to travel in large groups in public spaces. This type of mindset can have a negative impact on large corporate events. However, with the right event security tips you can provide attendees with peace of mind. (Fourth Wall Events)

Meeting technology company Social Tables teamed up with the Meetings Mean Business coalition and the Convention Industry Council to take a close look at the impact meetings are likely to have on hotel industry in the year ahead. (Meetings Net)

With the holiday season comes plenty of office parties and festive celebrations. From a burrata station to an interactive margarita bar, here are 10 ideas for thinking beyond traditional buffet setups. (BizBash)

If your work/life balance feels out of whack, your smartphone might be to blame. The reason: You probably spend all your free time on it, checking emails and responding to instant messages. (Successful Meetings)

Meet Our Volunteers
This month, we're delighted to introduce you to Valerie Hoffman. In her "real job," she is the Marketing Associate for New York Wheel LLC. But when she has her MPIGNY hat on, Valerie is our Sponsorship Chair, tirelessly working to secure sponsorships for everything from event sponsors to venue sponsor for our various events. While you may not know Valerie personally,  you have – or will – go to an event where her work was integral!

What committee do you volunteer for? Sponsorship.

What inspired you to volunteer for MPIGNY? When I began my current job about a year and half ago, my boss encouraged me to join a few marketing organizations in NYC and MPI was one of them. I started attending networking and education events and really enjoyed the people I met and everything the organization stood for. I reached out to a few board members and told them I was interested in getting more involved in the chapter. In my first few months as a member, I became chair of the Genie Awards Committee and got to know several awesome members on the board! The energy and commitment of all the board members motivated me to self-start my involvement in MPIGNY.

How long have you volunteered? I have been a member of MPIGNY since August of 2014. Around April of 2015, I became chair of the Genie Awards Committee. A few months ago I became chair of Sponsorship Committee.

Why do you volunteer? My job is primarily focused in the Tour & Travel industry facilitating sales for the New York Wheel; therefore, I don't actually spend much of my time working on events or planning meetings. I have always had a passion for event planning, so I volunteer for MPIGNY to maintain my connection with the events industry and to constantly meet new, bright people from whom I learn a great deal!

What is your favorite MPIGNY event? I have to say the Genies since it was the first event that I worked on for MPIGNY!

So, thanks to Valerie for all her hard work. We couldn't do it without her.

A little about New York Wheel: The Staten Island Ferry takes millions of people every year across New York Harbor to St. George, New York City's next waterfront destination. In 2017, New York Wheel will be the centerpiece of $1.2 billion dollars of investment in the redevelopment of St. George to transform this waterfront into a world-class destination. New York Wheel will be the largest observation wheel in the world standing at 630 feet and will attract more than 3.5 million visitors a year. The site will offer unique venues to host events, from in-pod dining and cocktail parties, to 5,000 person events on the green roof of the wheel’s terminal building.
