This month, we're delighted to introduce you to Valerie Hoffman. In her "real job," she is the Marketing Associate for New York Wheel LLC. But when she has her MPIGNY hat on, Valerie is our Sponsorship Chair, tirelessly working to secure sponsorships for everything from event sponsors to venue sponsor for our various events. While you may not know Valerie personally,  you have – or will – go to an event where her work was integral!

What committee do you volunteer for? Sponsorship.

What inspired you to volunteer for MPIGNY? When I began my current job about a year and half ago, my boss encouraged me to join a few marketing organizations in NYC and MPI was one of them. I started attending networking and education events and really enjoyed the people I met and everything the organization stood for. I reached out to a few board members and told them I was interested in getting more involved in the chapter. In my first few months as a member, I became chair of the Genie Awards Committee and got to know several awesome members on the board! The energy and commitment of all the board members motivated me to self-start my involvement in MPIGNY.

How long have you volunteered? I have been a member of MPIGNY since August of 2014. Around April of 2015, I became chair of the Genie Awards Committee. A few months ago I became chair of Sponsorship Committee.

Why do you volunteer? My job is primarily focused in the Tour & Travel industry facilitating sales for the New York Wheel; therefore, I don't actually spend much of my time working on events or planning meetings. I have always had a passion for event planning, so I volunteer for MPIGNY to maintain my connection with the events industry and to constantly meet new, bright people from whom I learn a great deal!

What is your favorite MPIGNY event? I have to say the Genies since it was the first event that I worked on for MPIGNY!

So, thanks to Valerie for all her hard work. We couldn't do it without her.

A little about New York Wheel: The Staten Island Ferry takes millions of people every year across New York Harbor to St. George, New York City's next waterfront destination. In 2017, New York Wheel will be the centerpiece of $1.2 billion dollars of investment in the redevelopment of St. George to transform this waterfront into a world-class destination. New York Wheel will be the largest observation wheel in the world standing at 630 feet and will attract more than 3.5 million visitors a year. The site will offer unique venues to host events, from in-pod dining and cocktail parties, to 5,000 person events on the green roof of the wheel’s terminal building.
