Using less water means heating less water. If just 20 out of every 100 homes in Canada installed water-saving fixtures, electricity consumption would fall by 100 million kilowatts. That’s equivalent to taking 15,000 cars off the road for a year —saving the equivalent of about 80,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions. Here are a few simple tips to help you save thousands of litres of water each month: • Aerators can save 1,900 litres (500 gallons) of water each year. • Save 75 litres (20 gallons) of water per day for every leak fixed. • Shortening showers saves 2,650 litres (700 gallons) per month for every minute.
