 Greetings everyone.

I’m sure that by now everyone has seen the OSHA Emergency Temporary Standard, Occupational Exposure to COVID-19. It was published to the Federal Register on Monday, June 6, 2021. We now have 14 days from the publication date to comply with most of the standard and 30 days to become compliant with the remaining requirements. ASHE Update

Greetings, and I hope that 2021 is treating you well. There continues to be a lot of exciting activity within ASHE and the board, and I would like to update you on some of the items.

 

The is a great in-person Annual Conference planned in Nashville, TN, on August 8-11, 2021, followed by a virtual conference on September 15, 2021. The virtual conference will have new learning sessions and has special pricing if registration is part of the in-person conference.

The American Society for Health Care Engineering

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) issued an emergency temporary standard (ETS) on Monday, June 21, to protect health care workers from occupational exposure to COVID-19. The ETS applies, with some exceptions, to health care settings where people may share space with COVID-19 patients or interact with others who do. The ETS requires health care employers to develop and implement a COVID-19 plan that identifies and controls COVID-19 hazards in the workplace.

The ETS is effective as of June 21 and has a compliance date of July 5, 2021, with the exception of paragraphs (i), the use of cleanable or disposable solid barriers at fixed work locations outside of direct patient care areas; (k) ventilation requirements; and (n) training requirements, all of which have a compliance date of July 21.
