 Greetings everyone.

I’m sure that by now everyone has seen the OSHA Emergency Temporary Standard, Occupational Exposure to COVID-19. It was published to the Federal Register on Monday, June 6, 2021. We now have 14 days from the publication date to comply with most of the standard and 30 days to become compliant with the remaining requirements. Some of the requirements that fall within our purview are:

  • HVAC systems to operate at their maximum efficiency.
  • Maximize outside air intake.
  • Minimum MERV 13 filters (or the maximum rating your system will support).
  • Social distancing and barrier requirements.
  • Maintain your AIIR’s to design and construction criteria.

A reminder that the ASHE Annual Conference has been relocated to Nashville August 8 – 11. There will also be a virtual option available September 15 for anyone unable to travel to the event. Check out the complementary “Lunch and Learn” opportunities from ASHE. You can also check out the ASHE “How To” videos for leaders on You Tube and their “Quick Learning” e-learning videos.

You are now able to purchase the first book in the ASHE Healthcare Facilities Handbook Series, “Introduction for Healthcare Facilities Management.” The book is available in print or digital versions from the AHA Store or in print from Amazon. ASHE plans to distribute one to two books a year in the series completing the set by 2025.

Watch for upcoming educational webinars available for our members on the KSHE website and social media outlets.

Your KSHE Board members are here to support you, but we need to hear from you. Some of the things we focus on are educating our front-line workers, sustainability, and succession. Are there other areas in our responsibilities that you need us to focus on? Let us know what you think. How can we help you to be more successful?

Thank you for all you do,

Martin Wheatley, CHE, CHFM
