President Joe Biden pledged that the United States would cut its greenhouse gas emissions in half from 2005 levels by the end of the decade as part of a bold climate plan outlined on April 22 during a virtual Earth Day summit with 40 heads of government, including China.

Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and Representative Sean Casten (D-IL) on April 15 introduced the “Climate Risk Disclosure Act” to mandate that publicly traded companies disclose climate-related metrics under the supervision of the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Senate Republicans on April 22 released a $568 billion infrastructure proposal to counter the $2 trillion-plus plan unveiled by President Biden early this month. But Congressional Democrats have made it clear they aren’t on board.

The Maritime Administration on April 16 issued a notice stating that the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2021 is making $230 million available for the Port Infrastructure Development Program to make grants to improve facilities within, or outside of, and directly related to operations of or intermodal connection to coastal seaports, inland river ports and Great Lakes ports.  

President Joe Biden on April 7 asked Congress for $1.52 trillion for fiscal year 2022 to significantly boost domestic spending, especially for federal health care and education programs.

Energy Transfer LP and Enable Midstream Partners, LP announced that the two largest Enable unitholders, CenterPoint Energy Inc and OGE Energy Corp. which collectively own 79% of Enable's outstanding common units, have both approved the merger of Enable into Energy Transfer.

 

At the direction of the ILTA Board of Directors, ILTA began work in January to develop Environment, Social and Governance Principles for our organization. 

In partnership with Saudi Aramco and Tank Storage Magazine, ILTA hosted its first ever Young Terminals Industry Professionals Summit on April 6.

ILTA on April 7 launched registration and unveiled its new website for the 2021 Annual Operating Conference and Trade Show, slated for October 4-6 in Houston. 

With a year of little travel and few opportunities to sell, the ILTA 2021 conference and trade show presents a great chance to get your products and services in front of terminal decision makers.

As highlighted at our recent EHSS committee meetings, a growing number of states are taking regulatory and legislative actions to restrict the use of PFAS, including in firefighting foams. The committee directed ILTA to create an online resource to track these developments to enable terminal companies to remain up to date with the rapidly evolving PFAS policy environment. A current list of state actions taken to date is available here. ILTA will continue to monitor state actions and update this resource on an ongoing basis.

This month’s ILTA terminal member peer-exchange call covered a variety of issues facing the tank terminals industry, including ILTA’s work on ESG Principles, an update on developments in Washington and the latest on the TWIC-reader rule.

This month, ILTA’s Think Tank blog featured seven new additions on a variety of topics including: an early preview of the Biden administration’s planned infrastructure bill; ILTA’s newly launched 2021 conference and trade show website; ILTA’s upcoming Terminal Operating Practices Symposium; a recap of last month’s Environment, Health & Safety, and Security Committee meetings; a recounting of ILTA’s inaugural Young Terminals Industry Professionals Summit; steps terminal facilities take to safeguard our environment in honor of Earth Day; and new biofuel legislation and Biden administrative action.
