HR MARTIN COUNTY

One of HR Martin County’s Workforce Readiness Initiatives in 2019 was the promotion of The Veterans at Work Certificate which was developed for HR professionals, hiring managers, and front-line supervisors. This Certificate was featured at a number of Chapter events including a Memorial Day-themed luncheon in May 2019 -a meeting at which the Chapter hosted the SHRM SE Region Field Services Director for a presentation on “The Future of Work – How It Impacts HR.”

The Chapter’s support of Veterans initiatives and Veterans was also clear in its selection of a former Navy Seal, as a presenter on Pursuing Elite and on Elite Achievers, part of the Chapter’s extensive content programming in 2019. The slate of chapter presentations included a session on Identifying and Managing Workplace Conflict with speaker Chad Sorenson, HR Florida State Council President-Elect and President and Founder of Adaptive HR Solutions.

As part of its mission to provide support for HR professionals and its community, the HR Martin County chapter supports the professional development of its members by offering a professional development scholarship, twice a year.

HR PALM BEACH COUNTY

HRPBC’s annual conference continues to expand, increasing beyond a one-day schedule and out-growing past locations. In 2019, the Chapter held its Annual Conference and Expo at the Kravis Center; the Conference and Expo will return to the Kravis on May 13 and 14, 2020 with an overall theme of “Purposeful, Passionate and Productive HR.”

Known for its commitment to initiatives that support Veterans, HRPBC held a Veterans Showcase Dinner in November 2019. At the Showcase, a White Table was set up in a reserved section of the dining area. Called a Missing Man Table by some, a White Table is usually a small table covered with a white tablecloth, set with a plate, silverware and a few unique objects, that serves as a reminder of those who aren't with us to share the meal; every object and element of the table has significance.

The Chapter’s commitment to volunteer and charitable initiatives is also seen in its status as a leading chapter in fund-raising for SHRM Foundation. With its highest level of contributions yet, HRPBC was a Top-20 chapter by SHRM Foundation as of December 31, 2019.

HRPBC’s networking activities for the year included a Tri-County event with Greater Miami SHRM and HRA Broward County when the three chapters connected for one event along the Brightline train line. The chapter finished the year with a holiday party, held at the Kravis Center, at which the Best in HR Awards winners were recognized.

SMA SOUTH FLORIDA

Like many SHRM chapters, SMA of South Florida provides support to its Community by participation in community efforts. In support of Veterans, the Chapter partnered with Keiser University for the “Patriots Placement” Job Resource and Expo in February 2019.

Looking to push the lines in innovative ways, the Chapter explored remote webinar offerings while focusing on in-person events. Throughout 2019, SMA South Florida focused on its new creation –“Books and Brew” –a book club in which participants read a selected Business/HR themed book and then met for a Facilitator-led discussion at a popular coffee shop, food store or restaurant. In 2019, the Books and Brew club discussed books, and the concepts behind the content, like “Black Holes, White Spaces: Reimagining the Future of Work and HR with the CHREATE Project,” “Motivation-based Interviewing: A Revolutionary Approach to Hiring the Best” and “Strengths Finder 2.0.” In addition to boosting engagement and creating networking opportunities, the Books and Brew gatherings enabled the Chapter to offer attendees HR recertification credits, and fun, in a more affordable and less conventional meeting format. These sessions filled in and sold-out on a consistent basis. They created buzz amongst HR and non-HR professionals, including individuals who were looking to connect with other professionals. Not surprising, this exciting Club will be part of the new decade and SMA of South Florida has already scheduled three Books and Brew sessions for their 2020 Calendar!
