Advance Your Organization: Workshops for Success: 10-11:30 am
Jeff Da Cagna’s CEO and Sr. Staff-focused Workshop: Why Strategic Planning is Damaging Association Business Models
Despite the obvious failure of strategic planning to accelerate the rate of progress across our community, associations remain committed to this outdated methodology. Far from preparing associations to anticipate and overcome the complex challenges created by The Age of Transformation, strategic planning remains an obstacle to associations realizing their full potential. This interactive session for CEOs and other senior leaders will explore why strategy as an exercise in planning actively undermines the essential task of building more adaptive and resilient business models that will make it possible for associations to thrive in the years ahead.

Planner-focused Workshop: Top Trends in Meeting & Eating
For professionals who plan meetings and events, food and beverage (F&B) offerings are among the biggest concerns in the lead-up to a major association gathering, according to a recent article in Successful Meetings (09/13).  Join Omni Hotel at CNN Center's Angela Roberts, CMP, Associate Director of Convention Services and Greg Wright, Executive Chef to explore the latest trends in being creative, cost-effective and impactful with your food and beverage choices and get a refresher course on the most efficient ways to partner with your facility and/or caterer.  Our hosts for the workshop will be GSAE members Laura Guerin, CMP and Candice Crossfield.

Achieve Success by Visiting Over 70 Booths: 11:30 am – 1:30 pm

•    Sit with our exhibitors during Jeff De Cagna’s keynote presentation and catch-up with your colleagues while meeting new professional contacts.
•    Proof of the Pudding fancy dessert (yum!).

Getting Out of the Membership Box – Jeff De Cagna, FRSA, FASAE
Associations are stuck in the membership box and they are struggling to find the way out. To move their organizations forward, association leaders must think differently about how value is created in a world of digital ubiquity, as well as the kinds of relationships they are willing to co-create with stakeholders who are benefiting from the power of networks. This keynote session will question some of the association community's most orthodox beliefs and will challenge participants to make innovation happen by harnessing the forces of transformation.  Jeff De Cagna, FRSA, FASAE is chief strategist and founder of Principled Innovation LLC and the association community’s leading voice for innovation.

Although the 2014 GSAE Quarterly Luncheon & Participation Fair is still a few months away (February 19 at the Holiday Inn Atlanta Capitol Conference Center), it's never too early to start thinking of ways to expand your GSAE involvement!  If you'd like to join a SIG(s) before then, or if you're interested in chairing a SIG, simply email GSAE.

GSAE's Shared Interest Groups (SIGs) offer one of the best resources for association executives and professionals.  These self-directed groups of GSAE members focus on a particular area and delve into various topics within that area.  In addition to learning from the "experts" in a particular area of interest, GSAE's SIGs offer members a place to discuss with peers issues of personal relevance.

Emerging Professionals SIG
Formerly the Young Professionals, this SIG is designed for GSAE members who are new to the association profession and are  interested in connecting with peers and leaders to grow professionally.  Join the discussion and learn about upcoming events by becoming a fan of the Facebook page today.

Government Relations SIG
For association professionals who have an interest in government relations or who work in an advocacy environment.

Small Association Staff SIG

Do you think your job is difficult?  Imagine managing a building with anywhere from 800 to 2000 children or teenagers, managing over 150 employees, setting the direction for all of them, and dealing with parents!  Well, you do not have to imagine – we have over 100 schools in Fulton County that are inviting a business or civic leader to be the principal’s shadow for a half or whole day.  This will be the week of November 18th and we will endeavor to accommodate your schedule.  Schools in supportive communities have some of the highest educational outcomes.  Education is a key priority for a strong economic future.  Join us to be part of the educational renaissance in Fulton County!  Need more information?  Click here for the application or contact Lisa Martin, GNFCC Education Committee.

Charities across Georgia will again rally the state’s collective philanthropic spirit on Thursday, November 13 for the second annual GA Gives Day 2013.  On November 13th, over 1,600 nonprofits throughout Georgia, along with major media, corporate, government and philanthropic leaders will try to engage over 10,000 donors to give to a cause of their choice in one 24 hour period.  The objective of the day is to celebrate the work and worth of nonprofits in our everyday lives and to celebrate the spirit of generosity in our state by raising as much awareness and as much money as possible during that timeframe.  100% of all donations go directly to your causes.

Georgia Gives Day is a celebration of generosity across the state, "This is a wonderful time to engage new donors in making a difference by helping them learn more about the organizations in their communities." said Karen Beavor, CEO of Georgia Center for Nonprofits.  The public is encouraged to give and to use their networks to spread the word about causes they care about and encourage others to give along with them.
