Transport Canada has renewed Equivalency Certificate SU 12435 (Renewal 2). The previous certificate is hereby revoked and superseded by the new one, which is available on the CPA website.

The deadline to become compliant with WHMIS 2015 obligations is December 1, 2018. As of this date, the classification, label and safety data sheet (SDS) must comply fully with the specific legislation and regulation chosen by the supplier, and not a combination of the two.

Recently, the CPA received questions from members regarding hose assembly inspection and testing requirements. To address these questions, the CPA gathered relevant information from standard CSA B620, a mandatory standard that is adopted into the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulations.

Technical Safety BC (TSBC) has sent the CPA a draft directive for consultation – Propane Filling Plants and Container Refill Centers. The CPA has reviewed the draft directive and has highlighted potential issues for its members, including the significant additional building costs associated with the proposed requirement to bury tanks for new filling plants or refilling centres.

Amendments to the Environment Act allow the Nova Scotia government to create a cap-and-trade program and the regulations to support it. The amendments, released on November 14, include establishing annual declining greenhouse gas emissions caps and the rules for distributing, buying, and selling GHG emission allowances.
