The Canadian Standards Association (CSA) has released the draft of the update to safety standard CSA B625, Portable tanks for the transport of dangerous goods for a 60-day consultation period. Once the safety standard has been finalized and published, a notice will be issued specifying the coming into force date of the updated standard.

The provincial Ministry of the Environment recently advised British Columbians and businesses that do business in B.C. that, effective October 30, 2018, the Spill Reporting Regulation is in effect.

The TSSA recently circulated Bulletin 2-10-12 Electrical Equipment near Combustible Gas Equipment to Propane Advisory Council Members. The bulletin provides clarification to questions about Rule 2-324 of the Ontario Electrical Safety Code which states that the clearance between arc-producing electrical equipment and a combustible gas relief device or vent shall be in accordance with the requirements of CSA B149.1.

The CPA/PTI is pleased to announce that Tracey Barge has been hired to support the PTI Team in the Calgary office. Tracey started at the end of October and has assumed the position of Office Administrator for PTI.

The CPA continues to work on improving our training services. We have a few items to update you on: our code of conduct and new PTI manual feedback support.

Free Access to CSA Standards

The Canadian Standards Association’s (CSA) Technical Committee on Cylinders, Spheres, and Tubes for the Transportation of Dangerous Goods has published new editions of standards CSA B339, CSA B340, CSA B341 and CSA B342. In accordance with Section 1.3.2 of the TDG Regulations, these newly published standards come into force on December 31, 2018, however, members may begin transitioning to these new standards at any time before this date. 

The CPA holds a number of Equivalency Certificates on behalf of its members and are available on the CPA websiteThe terms and conditions of each Equivalency Certificate must be adhered to at all times. 

Ongoing Consultation & Updates

Regulations Amending the Energy Efficiency Regulations, aimed at introducing or updating energy standards, testing standards and reporting requirements, were published in Part I of the Canada Gazette on October 20, 2018.

CPA Committee Updates

The CPA is currently seeking nominations for the position of Chair and Vice-Chair of the new Ontario Committee. Any Ontario member has the right to nominate or stand for this position. To nominate yourself or someone else for the position, please complete the nomination form that can be found on the Grid and email it to handokang@propane.ca no later than Friday, November 16, 2018
